Review: L'Occupation des sols

L'Occupation des sols L'Occupation des sols by Jean Echenoz
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review: Skin in the Game: Hidden Asymmetries in Daily Life

Skin in the Game: Hidden Asymmetries in Daily Life Skin in the Game: Hidden Asymmetries in Daily Life by Nassim Nicholas Taleb
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Some things I learned, some other I doubt but I can think about data manipulation as a way to obtain a certain results and if Piketty does why should he be the only one? Still I found the book lacking of a proper development and asymmetry is not always the point in many of these essays put together for a book more than for a reason. I like (not as a whole) some of the ways that the author explains come concepts, but I sometimes wonder about his choices of what and how to explain.

Review: Every Note Played

Every Note Played Every Note Played by Lisa Genova
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Another super sad story, but in a way easier to handle, because the victim is sort of an a$$hole and it is easier to think that whatever happened to him he deserved it. Still it remains painful to read and I wished all the time that something like that would never happen to me, but this I do every time I read Lisa Genova....

NeuroLoveology: The Power to Mindful Love & Sex by Ava Cadell

NeuroLoveology: The Power to Mindful Love & Sex

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Definitely a good book, which combines several body techniques with mindfulness techniques aimed at awakening sexuality, both in men and women, and bring it to life trough a more conscious awareness relaxation. It also offers helpful tips for the various stages of life (and sexuality) and also for those situations in which the sex life can be affected by external causes.

SUMMONED TO THIRTEENTH GRAVE by Darynda Jones

How could she end the last book on a series of 13 in this way I would never understand, I have been following her character for years and still she did this.... I do not think I will never forgive her for this dirty trick. I will not probably read the story of Beep also, not if it's so long and it is going to end so bad.
I am seriously disappointed, I will not add anything else to that.

Beguiling the Earl (Landing a Lord, #2) by Suzanna Medeiros

Beguiling the Earl (Landing a Lord, #2)

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I liked this book, above all because the characters do not get lost in a series of misunderstandings that would have weighed down the whole book and Catherine really trust her feelings and Kerrick, so that the explanation does not arrive then only at the end.

I missed the photos, they could have made a good book of recipes in a superb one, but ok. Easy ingredients and explanations are supposed to be enough, even for me.

Review: Love Anthony

Love Anthony Love Anthony by Lisa Genova
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Oh the infinite sadness of a sick child....I had to stop reading from time to time because it was unbearable. It gave me some insight on autism, but I am not sure this is the best source anyway, and there are many different form of autism, that's why they talk about an autism specter. I wouldn't recommend it but it a very beautiful story.

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Review: Da molto lontano

Da molto lontano Da molto lontano by Roberto Costantini
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Rogue with a Brogue (Scandalous Highlanders, #2) by Suzanne Enoch

Rogue with a Brogue (Scandalous Highlanders, #2)

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

That is, this book is (despite the difficulty of the Scottish language for those who do not speak English as their mother tongue), a quick and easy read that leaves happy for a sufficient time, let's say directly proportional to the time spent to read it.

Review: A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

A Tree Grows in Brooklyn A Tree Grows in Brooklyn by Betty Smith

Review: I libri costano troppo?

I libri costano troppo? I libri costano troppo? by John Maynard Keynes
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

The Children Act by Ian McEwan

The Children Act

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

A book that can be read in one breath, but not in the sense that it just does not slow down (as usual for this author) or that is full of suspense: in my case I read it quickly because I wanted to see when it got the reversal, when (as he usually does) the author would have shuffled the cards on the table and did finish the book in a completely different way from how it was started. But no, trivial from beginning to end, from the mid-life crisis of the judge's husband, to the verdict of the court and the same conclusion that puts husband and wife in the position of parity so they can carry on as if nothing had happened. Even Jack, who somehow had all the potentiality to become a character if not memorable, at least a teenager to remember, is obvious from the beginning to the end that he had chosen from the beginning. In short, a disappointment because I have become accustomed to something else from Mr.McEwan, but he probably forgot in the meantime.

Review: The Wild Party

The Wild Party The Wild Party by Joseph Moncure March
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Kid Confidence: Help Your Child Make Friends, Build Resilience, and Develop Real Self-Esteem Kid Confidence: Help Your Child Make Friends, Build Resilience, and Develop Real Self-Esteem by Eileen Kennedy-Moore

Interesting, mostly because it compares old theories about self esteem and recent studies focused on children and adolescents. Moreover there are very easy to comprehend tips and suggestions to apply immediately in our relationship with the children.

Review: Autonomous

Autonomous Autonomous by Annalee Newitz
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I found this book a little bit disturbing in the end, even if the story was cool and even the techno jargoon not so bad as it may sometimes be in sci-fi books. Paladin was a very interesting character, as it was Jack and the plot was easy to follow, still I wouldn't recommend it to many people.
