The WikiLeaks Files: The World According to US Empire by Julian Assange

I would like a lot of people to read this book, because it gives a complete sightseeing over the U.S. Foreign Policy and it would be nice to eventually open our eyes to many things that are, at last, a lot confused. I'm sure I would buy this book as soon as it's published and lend it to as many people as possible.
Mi piacerebbe molto che tantissime persone leggessero questo libro perché offre una visione globale e dettagliata della politica estera degli Stati Uniti negli ultimi 50 anni e potrebbe darci la possibilitá di capire molte cose che sono, allo stato attuale dei fatti, quanto meno confuse. Sono sicura che compreró questo libro appena viene pubblicato e lo presteró al maggior numero di persone possibile.

Review: Fugitive Telemetry

If we exclude the fifth in the series, all of the books in the Murderbot series are novella length so I enjoyed reading Rin's story in a couple of hours spent just fine.
This time too, the adventure, which could be considered a detective story, with Murderbot as Poirot, takes place on Preservation Station and the topic is paradoxically very timely.
As always I can't wait to read the next one, I'm developing an addiction, like his to Sanctuary Moon.
Se escludiamo il quinto della serie, tutti i libri della serie Murderbot hanno la lunghezza di una novella e quindi mi sono divertita a leggere la storia di Rin in un paio d'ore spese proprio bene.
Anche stavolta l'avventura, che potrebbe essere considerato un giallo, con Murderboot nei panni di Poirot, ha luogo su Preservation Station e l'argomento é paradossalmente molto attuale.
Come sempre non vedo l'ora di leggere il prossimo, sto sviluppando una dipendenza, tipo la sua da Sanctuary Moon.

Review: Klara and the Sun

I don't want to spoil anything, but this book made me think a lot about "Never Let Me Go" and for several reasons. Once again the narrator leaves much to the imagination and it is up to us to reconstruct the world around our characters. But unlike the book that became famous for being a movie, this time I think the narrative does not take off immediately, indeed, the first part is rather slow, then there is a central peak that leads to the conclusion rather predictable and decidedly fable-like. Too bad, because in my opinion with these premises, the development could have been much better, but who am I to criticize an Nobel Prize winner for literature?
Non voglio spoilerare niente, ma questo libro ricorda molto, almeno secondo me, "Never let me go" e per varie ragioni. Ancora una volta la voce narrante lascia molto all'immaginazione e sta a noi ricostruire il mondo che circonda i nostri personaggi. A differenza peró del libro che é diventato famoso per essere un film, stavolta secondo me la narrazione non decolla subito, anzi, la prima parte é piuttosto lenta, poi c'é un picco centrale che porta alla conclusione piuttosto scontata e decisamente favolistica. Peccato, perché secondo me con queste premesse, lo svolgimento avrebbe potuto essere decisamente migliore, ma chi sono io per criticare un premio Nobel per la letteratura?

I used to like the SInclair Brothers, but Joshua got on my nerves from the previous book and I didn't like his story so much. I am still thinking if there was something specific or it was just his behaviour.. I am not sure I will read the other installment in this series.
Mi piacevano i fratelli Sinclair, ma Joshua non é mai stato uno dei mie preferiti nemmeno nel libro precedente e la sua storia non mi ha preso per niente, probabilmente per il suo comportamento. Non sono sicura che continueró a leggere gli altri volumi della serie....

E. Rolls, has, in fact, accustomed me to another type of regency novel, usually centered entirely on the aristocracy, but I must admit that I didn't mind this new version at all. Psychè and Will are two beautifully written characters and their story is definitely different from the usual topoi of the genre and not at all obvious.
E. Rolls, mi ha, in effetti, abituato ad un altro tipo di romanzo regency, di solito incentrato tutto sull'aristocrazia, ma devo ammettere che questa sua nuova versione non mi é dispiaciuta affatto. Psychè e Will sono due bei personaggi e la loro storia decisamente diversa dai soliti topoi del genere e non affatto scontata.

Review: Book of Love

I was looking forward to reading this book, but it really disappointed me. Cornelia seems like a woman who is simply very confused and Alistair seems like one of those classmates that no one could stand anymore because they did nothing but chaos. I gave it two stars, only because I was interested in the political discussion on women's rights, which the author was able to describe much better than this love story (?) that dragged on for an infinite number of pages. And to think that I liked the first book in this series so much.....
Non vedevo l'ora di leggere questo libro, che peró mi ha proprio deluso. Cornelia sembra una donna semplicemente molto confusa e Alistair sembra uno di quei compagni di classe che nessuno sopportava piú perché non facevano altro che casino. Gli ho dato due stelle, soltanto perché mi interessava il discorso politico sui diritti alle donne, che l'autrice ha saputo descrivere molto meglio rispetto a questa storia d'amore (?) che si é trascinata per un infinito numero di pagine. E pensare che il primo libro di questa serie mi era piaciuto cosí tanto.....

Body in Mind by Tamara Russell

Right now there are many many books about mindfulness around, but this one is a little bit different because instead of talking about mindfulness meditation, moves the meditation in a "moving body" and that is great if you are somebody like me who cannot really stand still for more than one minute. So, as the explanations are clear and the illustration of the movements also, you just need to read it and use it.
Attulamente ci sono in giro tanti libri sulla Mindfulness e questo si differenzia principalmente perché, invece di parlare di meditazione, porta la mindfulness in movimento, illustra cioé una serie di esercizi che possono portarci comunque in uno stato di profonda riflessione su noi stessi e cambiare il nostro modo di vedere sia noi stessi che il mondo. Quindi siccome il libro é chiaro come anche le spiegazioni dei movimenti, non resta che leggerlo ed usarlo.

A Bride at Last (Unexpected Brides #3) by Melissa Jagears

I'm not so much into Christian romance, but this one was not so bad and I love mail ordered bride, even if the heroine of this book was not technically one of them. The story was good enough but I didn't appreciate too much the way Silas was acting towards Kate.
Non é che i romance cristiani siano proprio il mio pane quotidiano, probabilmente sto espiando il fatto di dover leggere Gray prima o poi, comunque ho anche una segreta passione per i libri dove si parla delle mogli ordinate per posta, anche se tecnicamente la protagonista di questo romanzo non era una di quelle. La storia non era male ma alla fine l'atteggiamento di Silas nei confronti di Kate mi ha proprio innervosito.

The Man Who Closed the Asylums Franco Basaglia and the Revolution in Mental Health Care by John Foot
It's nice from time to time, to read about some "good Italian" like Franco Basaglia, who was an Italian psychiatrist who radically changed the life and the institution dedicated to the "mental illness" in the seventies. I was lucky enough to meet some other people involved in this revolution because I was a student of Giovanni Jervis in Rome and later I worked for the Radical Radio (the radio of the Radical Party) so I met Marco Pannella, so I love this argument and I would like everybody to read about that and How it is possible for a man to almost completely change a part so huge like the psychiatric world.
Ogni tanto fa piacere leggere qualcosa su un italiano che ha fatto miracoli come Franco Basaglia, lo psichiatra che ha cambiato radicalmente la vita e le istituzioni dedicate alle persone con patologie mentali durante gli anni '70. Sono stata molto fortunata a mia volta, perché ho incontrato altre persone coinvolte in questa battaglia, sia perché sono stata studente di Giovanni Jervis alla Sapienza, sia perché ho lavorato con i radicali e quindi incontrato Marco Pannella e quindi questo argomento mi interessa particolarmente, anche perché dimostra come sia possibile per una sola persona cambiare una situazione immensa come quella psichiatrica.

Also this time, the friends we already met in Mr.Mercedes do not get more than 3 stars, but it's not their fault. It's seems to me that in this book, that is more a crime novel than something else, the way S.King writes is different. For example in the old times a woman wouldn't wake up almost unscathed from a bullet in her head and there would have been much more dead people everywhere, but here only the bad ones die, or the old ones, so sometimes I'm not even sure is one of my favorite author whom I'm reading.....
Anche stavolta, i personaggi che abbiamo giá incontrato in Mr.Mercedes non si guadagnano piú di tre stellette, ma non é colpa loro, piuttosto mi sembra che S.King, nello scrivere questi due gialli, lo faccia in modo diverso. Per esempio, nei vecchi libri (o anche in Revival) una donna non si sarebbe ripresa da una pallottola in testa e ci sarebbero state persone morte ovunque, invece qui muoiono solo i cattivi o le persone anziane, tanto che a volte non mi sembra nemmeno di leggere quello che é uno dei miei scrittori preferiti.

Big Pharma, Women, and the Labour of Love by Thea Cacchioni
As a psychotherapist I can only agree with the thesis of the author about all the medicalization about female sexual issues are mostly driven by the big pharmaceutic industry. Mostly the based on the conception of an "heterosexual normal life" that is, not only difficult to define, but even more difficult to apply to the LGBT World. Very interesting and it offers a lot to think about.
Come psicoterapeuta non posso che concordare con la tesi dell'autrice di quanto la medicalizzazione delle problematiche sessuali femminili stia subendo una grossa spinta dalle case farmaceutiche. Basata sulla definizione, per altro vaghissima di una "normale vita sessuale dal punto di vista eterosessuale", tali norme sono ancora piú difficili da applicare al mondo omosessuale o transessuale. Un libro molto interessante che offre moltissimi spunti di riflessione.

Review: Double Blind

A strange book, in which the first part seems 'normal', the second takes a peculiar turn, bordering on the ridiculous, and the third returns to being a mix between normal and excessive. Not that the book is not a pleasant read, but the author's purpose is not clear to me, so much so that it is one of those books that I catalogue among those that do not begin and do not end.
Strano libro, in cui la prima parte sembra "normale" la second prende una piega particolare, al limite del ridicolo e la terza torna ad essere un mix tra normale ed eccessivo. Non che il libro non sia una piacevole lettura, ma lo scopo dell'autore non mi é chiaro, tant'é che é uno di quei libri che catalogo tra quelli che non cominciano e non finiscono.

Come grande appassionata di arte contemporanea, che per me è interessantissima in quanto non la capisco (come la fisica e la matematica per intenderci) questo libro é stata una bellissima rivelazione;posso quasi affermare che mi ha permesso di comprendere, o quanto meno provarci, alcune opere ed artisti che mi erano oscuri. Certo che ci sono anche rimasta male per l'odio, a mio parere ingiustificato, dell'autore per Botero, ma ok, almeno gli piace Koons.

Ho dovuto interrompere la lettura di questo libro piú volte, perché non riuscivo ad andare avanti a leggere le condizioni ed i trattamenti che le persone che vogliono arrivare in Europa sui barconi dei trafficanti sono costrette a subire.
Personalmente non ritengo Khaled un innocente, ma certamente non il peggiore tra i colpevoli.
Molto interessante ritengo sia la parte in cui viene spiegata la vita in Libia prima, durante e dopo il regime di Gheddafi, la cui assenza sembra, paradossalmente, peggiore della sua presenza.

I really liked this adventure of Sebastian's, although sometimes the number of characters turned out to be quite difficult for associating the name to the situations, which was not so immediate. Unfortunately, it was still a transitional story, in which we do not learn something more about Sebastian's past and/or his real parents.
Mi é piaciuta molto questa avventura di Sebastian, nonostante a volte il numero dei personaggi si rivelasse piuttosto faticoso e anche l'associare il nome ai personaggi non fosse cosí immediato. Purtroppo era comunque un libro di transizione, in cui non veniamo a sapere altro sul passato di Sebastian e sui suoi veri genitori.

This book reminded me not only of a number of theoretical points, which over the years have ended up in the background of my practice, for many reasons, but most of all why, so many years ago, I had decided to be a psychotherapist. Now, even if my life has taken a different path, and in German, there are things that I miss a lot and others much less, but as in all things and perhaps in all jobs, there are always positive sides and others not so much.
Questo libro mi ha ricordato non solo una serie di punti teorici, che nel corso degli anni sono finiti sullo sfondo della mia pratica, per molte ragioni, ma soprattutto il motivo per cui, tanti anni fa, avevo deciso di fare la psicoterapeuta. Ora, anche se poi la mia vita ha preso un altra strada, e in tedesco, ci sono cose che mi mancano tantissimo e altre molto meno, ma come in tutte le cose e forse anche in tutti i lavori, ci sono sempre dei lati positivi e degli altri un po' meno.
