Very interesting book, too bad we were missing a part in which they tried to prevent bullied children from becoming bullying parents themselves, which would have been a perfect squaring of the circle.
Libro molto interessante, peccato che ci mancava una parte nella quale si cercava di evitare che i bambini bullizzati diventassero a loro volta dei genitori bullizzanti, che sarebbe stata una perfetta quadratura del cerchio.

How does one become a great chef? How do you develop a taste so fine that you can tell if butter was made by hand from cows grazing near the barn or with a mixer from cows grazing far away instead? This autobiography provides few answers but many examples of how taste is cultivated and refined, how it is expanded and differentiated.
There are no recipes in this book, but certainly many insights.
Come si diventa dei grandi chef? Come si sviluppa un gusto cosí fine da poter capire se il burro é stato fatto a mano da mucche che pascolano vicino alla stalla o con il mixer da mucche che pascolano invece lontano? Questa autobiografie fornisce poche risposte ma molti esempi di come si coltiva e si affina il gusto, come si amplia e si differenzia.
Non ci sono ricette in questo libro, ma sicuramente molti spunti.

É muito engraçado, mas da próxima vez vou tentar ler algo em português, vou evitar Saramago, porque ele escreve em sua própria maneira especial, que não é fácil.
It's pretty funny but next time I will try to read something in portuguese I will avoid Saramago because he writes in his own special way, that is not easy.
E 'piuttosto divertente, ma la prossima volta che cercherò di leggere qualcosa in portoghese eviterò Saramago, perché scrive nel suo modo speciale, che non è facile.

The Geek Feminist Revolution by Kameron Hurley

I liked this book a lot, even if it was not exactly what I was expecting, mostly because at the beginning I didn't like the author so much, but in the end I really appreciate the straight way she has to describe even the worst things, the one we prefer to ignore for example. So I got a lot of information about the world of sci-fi writers, women bloggers and videogame designers and books too, the way they are written and shaped. A recommended reading in my opinion.
Questo libro mi é piaciuto molto anche se: 1) non era quello che pensavo di leggere; 2) l'autrice all'inizio mi era personalmente antipatica, per essere precisi la trovavo insopportabile; Alla fine peró il modo che ha Kameron Hurley di descrivere le cose, le peggiori per essere precisi, quelle che tendenzialmente amiamo ignorare, mi é sembrato veramente adatto per arrivare a comprendere il mondo nascosto degli scrittori di fantascienza e fantasy e delle donne blogger o designer di videogames, piú il modo in cui i libri si formano persino prima di essere scritti. Una lettura necessaria per quanto mi riguarda.

What a great book, it reminded me of how often I too, during the early months of the pandemic, thought that as long as my family was with me, the situation was not so desperate. The story of Lara and her daughters, Joe and Duke flows extremely nicely, despite the time jumps and the feeling of impending doom, which pervades the entire novel. Yet another excellent story by this writer, who again did not disappoint me.
Che bel libro, mi ha ricordato come spesso anche io, durante i primi mesi della pandemia, pensavo che fino a che la mia famiglia era con me, la situazione non era poi cosí disperata. La storia di Lara e delle sue figlie, di Joe e di Duke scorre in modo estremamente piacevole, nonostante i salti temporali e la sensazione di fine del mondo, che pervade tutto il romanzo. Un'ennesima ottima prova di questa scrittrice, che anche stavolta non mi ha deluso.

Abbastanza interessante, anche se molte delle cose scritte dall'autrice le conoscevo giá, c'erano chiaramente un'infinitá di collegamenti che non avrei mai fatto ad altri libri o tesi. Quindi consiglierei questo libro a chi non ha giá una conoscenza specifica dell'argomento, ma a chi vorrebbe quanto meno avvicinarcisi.

I have complexes and mixed feelings about this book, and I've had them all along. Since the beginning I was captivated by the story, the setting was so unsettling (pun intended) that I was eager to see how the story was going to proceed, but my problem has always been the fact that I find the prose of Margaret Atwood slow, so slow that I always read some other books in the meantime. This time was no exception, but in the end I obliged myself to read the last 100 pages in one setting, because I was longing to see the end, and I only say that it left me disappointed but it is absolutely consistent with the book. The world the author portraits scares me to death, even more now, when there is another clown ruling the world, or at last trying to, between his twitter session, but the end of the book is what I would like to discuss with somebody, because it lefts me wondering.
Ho avuto dall'inizio dei sentimenti contrastanti riguardo questo libro, e sono rimasti fino all'ultima riga e anche ora che vorrei discutere il finale con qualcuno. La storia mi ha preso dall'inizio, anche perché il setting era cosí disturbante che non vedevo l'ora di sapere cosa sarebbe successo e se qualcosa sarebbe cambiato; il mio problema peró é stata sempre la prosa di Margaret Atwood, che trovo di una lentezza quasi mortale, non a caso leggo sempre altri libri contemporaneamente ai suoi. Peró mi sono obbligata a leggere le ultime 100 pagine consecutivamente perché proprio non ne potevo piú di questo lento stillicidio e volevo vedere l'epilogo. Purtroppo non mi é piaciuto, ma devo ammettere che é totalmente consistente con la storia. Il mondo dipinto dall'autrice, considerato fino a poco tempo fa sci-fi, mi spaventa a morte specialmente ora che abbiamo un altro pagliaccio al potere, tra un twitter e l'altro, ma quello che vorrei soprattutto in questo momento, é discutere del finale con altre persone che hanno letto il libro, perché mi sento molto "appesa".
