I loved this book where a lot of very famous pieces of art are discussed and it is explained why a child couldn't have done that. Brilliant!

Questo libro mi é piaciuto tantissimo, perché assieme alle spiegazioni dettagliate di molte opere d'arte contemporanea famose ci sono anche le spiegazioni riguardanti il fatto che no, tuo figlio di 5 anni non avrebbe potuto fare la stessa cosa. Geniale!

Some of the things I read in this book are innovative, others are uselessly provocative, and some others totally superficial (your usual De Botton), but in the end it was a worth reading that helped me to see art under a different perspective.

Alcune delle cose che ho letto in questo libro sono piuttosto innovative, altre inutilmente provocatoria ed altre ancora di una superficialità sconcertante (il solito De Botton, tanto per dire una cattiveria), ma alla fine sono stata contenta di aver letto questo libro, e soprattutto di averlo comprato, perché mi ha fornito nuove prospettive di vedere/intendere/capire l'arte.

Luckily I already studied many of the things told by this huge marvelous book, otherwise I would have been probably overwhelmed by the quantity and the quality of the things told by Kandel, who wrote another of my favorite book ever (Principles of Neuroscience). So I wouldn't recommend this book to many, but if you are a psychologist with a love for art and the brain, this is the perfect book for you.

Fortunatamente avevo giá studiato la maggior parte degli argomenti trattati da questo meraviglioso ed immenso libro, altrimenti non so se sarei riuscita ad arrivare in fondo, nonostante Kandel sia uno dei miei autori preferiti ed abbia scritto un altro super libro (Principi di Neuroscienze). Quindi non consiglierei a tanti questo volume, ma se siete degli psicologi con una passione per l'arte e per il cervello, questo é il libro perfetto.

Heureusement, je l'avais déjà lu plusieurs de ces essais par Umberto Eco, qui avaint comme argument commun le Moyen Age. Pour les fans du genre ainsi que des experts, peut-être, peut-être pas tous, intéressant même pour les non-initiés, mais je ne pense pas que je peux le recommander à tout le monde.

Fortunatamente avevo giá letto parecchi di questi saggi di Umberto Eco, che hanno come argomento comune il medioevo. Per amanti del genere ed anche esperti, potrebbero risultare, magari non tutti, interessanti anche per i profani, ma non mi sentirei di consigliarlo a tutti.

I didn't know I was living such a creative life till Elizabeth Gilbert told me and explained me why. It's not a bad book, but suggestions like these are not so easy to follow and sometimes I think she was just taking the easy way out because there are times when you have neither time or money to pursue your dream.

Non sapevo di star vivendo un vita cosí creativa fino a che non me l'ha detto Elizabeth Gilbert e mi ha anche spiegato perché. Non é un brutto libro, ma i suggerimenti che contiene non sono certo poi cosí semplici da mettere in atto e a volte mi é sembrato che scegliesse tutte situazioni in cui la creativitá non era poi così difficile da agire, se non fosse che spesso ci sono momenti in cui le persone non hanno né il tempo né i soldi per dedicarsi ai loro sogni.

I picked up this book from Netgalley because once, in Rome, I went to see one of Rothko's exhibition and even if I couldn't explain why, I found it totally fascinating. Now that I can understand his vision a little bit better the magic didn't disappear but this book is not easy and it's better if there are is previous knowledge of the artistic world in general.

Ho scelto questo libro da Netgalley perché tanti anni fa, a Roma, ho visto un'esposizione di Rothko, che non conoscevo per niente, ma che mi é piaciuta molto. Dopo la lettura di questo libro qualcosa é cambiato, ma non la magia che hanno i suoi quadri per me, comunque questo volume non é proprio semplicissimo e magari avere precedenti conoscenze di storia dell'arte puó aiutare.

It was interesting, but it was not exactly what the title made me think so I was a little bit disappointed even if the explanation of the process behind Anime was illuminating. now I know a little bit more about the Studio Ghibli.

È stato interessante, ma non era proprio quello che mi aspettavo dopo aver letto il titolo e la quarta di copertina, quindi ci sono rimansta un po' male anche se il "dietro le quinte" degli anime é stato illuminante e ora conosco un po' di piú come funziona lo Studio Ghibli.

Come grande appassionata di arte contemporanea, che per me è interessantissima in quanto non la capisco (come la fisica e la matematica per intenderci) questo libro é stata una bellissima rivelazione;posso quasi affermare che mi ha permesso di comprendere, o quanto meno provarci, alcune opere ed artisti che mi erano oscuri. Certo che ci sono anche rimasta male per l'odio, a mio parere ingiustificato, dell'autore per Botero, ma ok, almeno gli piace Koons.
