I was worried that, after a great first book, the secondo would have been not so good, well I can happily say that it is not and the second installment in this series is also very good, fast paced and absolutely delightful, plus love, this time we also have love, which is also not bad.

Ero preoccupata che questo secondo libro non potesse reggere, non potesse essere all'altezza del primo, e invece, per fortuna, regge benissimo il colpo e inoltre aggiunge anche la storia d'amore alle avventure ed una trama che, per quanto piuttosto lineare, rimane piena di sorprese. Avanti il prossimo!

Babel is another case of a literature genius that I do not like so much to read, mostly because this little short stories, for example, took place during the war and are sad and full of violence and death but still in his description there is beauty and poetry.

Babel é un altro di quei casi di geni della letteratura che peró non mi piacciono tanto, nel suo caso principlmente perché le sue storie, come queste per esempio, sono tutte ambientate durante la guerra e sono tristi e piene di violenza e morte, ma nonostante questo nelle sue descrizioni c'é anche una bellezza nascosta ed una certa poesia.

Great adventure, I had a blast a read it in one night and I am also delighted the there are other 2 books like this (hopefully) waiting for me. Evie became, in few hours, one of my favorite feminine characters, almost comparable to Nevada (Ilona Andrews) and Cat (Jeaniene Frost).

Avventura pazzesca, l'ho letto in una notte e sono felicissima che sia una trilogia e altri due libri mi stanno aspettando. Evi é diventata, nel giro di poche ore, una dei miei personaggi femminili preferiti, paragonabili a Nevada o a Cat.

Even if it is not the book about Call, that I am waiting for since the beginning, I liked this about Aden a lot: the plot is not so foreseeable and the story is well paced. Plus now the next should really be about Call and I hope not about his sister, please Mrs. Enoch, make me happy!

Anche se questo non é il libro sul fratello che aspettavo, la storia di Aden mi é piaciuta parecchio lo stesso, soprattutto perché la trama non é poi cosí prevedibile ed é anche avvincente. Inoltre, il prossimo volume dovrebbe necessariamente essere su Call, o almeno (Mrs. Enoch la prego), lo spero proprio!

Review: Wicked Bite

I think it is very sad, that what could have been a single, beautiful book was even divided into three parts, the last of which has really no reason to exist if it were not for editorial duty.
The resulting story is protracted and diluted, and what are two beautiful characters become in the end just "caricatures" because their behavior seems to us repeated and stereotyped. It would also be time to realize that a good story doesn't have to become always a trilogy.

Penso che sia molto triste, che quello che poteva essere un unico e bel libro, sia stato diviso addirittura in tre parti, l'ultima della quale non ha veramente nessuna ragione di esistere se non fosse per dovere editoriale.
La storia ne risulta prolissa e diluita e quelli che sono due bei personaggi, diventano alla fine solo delle "macchiette" perché i loro comportamenti ci sembrano ripetuti e stereotipati. Sarebbe anche ora di rendersi conto che una bella storia non deve diventare per forza una trilogia.

Very interesting, especially if you have some sort of previous knowledge or if you have a relative who suffered a concussion and you want to have a glimpse of what it is happening. I am happy to be in the first class of person and I really appreciate some insights and some easy tips.

Molto interessante, specialmente con una base di conoscenze precedenti o se in presenza di amici o parenti che hanno subito un trauma cranico, e io per fortuna appartengo alla prima classe di persone. Ci sono ottime informazioni ed alcuni facili "trucchi" per aiutare il paziente.

My problem with this graphic novel was mostly due to the great expectations. I had read the adaptation of Kindred almost six months ago and I liked it a lot, so I was ready to repeat the experience, but this time the story was claustrophobic and sad (your usually post scarcity stuff) , and I also get the style of the author (sketchy tables, unfinished drawing, etc.) but all together they were too much for me and I didn't really appreciate that.

Il mio problema con questa graphic novel é da imputarsi soprattutto al fatto che avevo delle grosse aspettative in quanto avevo letto l'adattamento di Kindred circa sei mesi fa, mi era piaciuto tanto e mi aspettavo qualcosa di simile, ma stavolta la storia era claustrofobica e cupa (la classica storia post scarcity) e lo stile dell'autore (tavole solo abbozzate per esempio), per quanto avessero un senso nel descrivere questo tipo di storia, hanno formato un insieme di cose troppo pesanti perché il risultato poi mi piacesse.

Non é che quando uno compra questo libro, proprio non se l'aspetta di sentirsi male, anzi, e peró e come spesso accade, la realtá é persino peggiore di ogni idea giá di per se brutta. Raccontata da un giornalista del Manifesto, a volte con delle botte di retorica non particolarmente nascoste, questa storia lascia molto di piú che l'amaro in bocca, perché non ci sono speranze per nessuno, né per loro, né tanto meno per noi che non siamo particolarmente cattivi e lasciamo solo che le cose vadano avanti. Noi che abbiamo forse qualche rigurgito di coscienza giusto dentro le cabine elettorali, ma che tanto ormai non servono piú a niente, considerata la costellazione dei vari partiti e partitini di sinistra che non hanno fatto da anni qualcosa di sinistra, tranne scindersi, quella sí che é una cosa veramente di sinistra.

I read this one before The Peripheral, my bad, but I read that one also, another mistake. Agency is not half as good as The peripheral, but it helped me to comprehend the first installment in this series. Anyway it was not a good book in my opinion, if I didn't have to review it for Netgalley I would have probably quit around page 150, which is also a pity because we are talking about Gibson here, William Gibson......

Ho letto questo secondo volume della serie e solo dopo ho letto il primo: The Peripheral. Il che ha portato immediatamente il numero dei miei errori a 2, prima di tutto perché non li ho letti in ordine (anche se Agency mi ha fatto capire molto meglio The Peripheral) e secondo perché The Peripheral é decisamente il migliore tra i due libri, e The Agency poteva tranquillamente essere almeno un centinaio di pagine piú breve ; inoltre se non avessi dovuto recensirlo per Netgalley avrei anche smesso di leggerlo intorno a pagina 15o, il che fa pensare, anche perché stiamo parlando di William Gibson qui, mica del primo che passa....

I don't think that I will ever be able to grow Orchids, when the flower again for me it is always a miracle. Still this book gave me very good suggestions and there were very beautiful illustrations and some great pics (unluckily they were also very small). So a very good book in the end.

Non credo che saró mai in grado di coltivare orchidee, ogni volta che mi capita che le mie fioriscano di nuovo mi sembra un vero e proprio miracolo; comunque su questo libro ho trovato degli ottimi suggerimenti e una marea di informazioni, oltre a bellissimi disegni e a belle foto, che peró erano veramente troppo piccole, quindi un ottimo manuale nel complesso.

Nice ending for a series that I follow from the beginning; eventually Zane and Jeanie found their happy ending while the world around them is falling down and the epidemic spreads. Farwell to all the couples we met along the years, the new and the very old. I won't follow the spin-off probably, but it was nice to met/read this character.

Un bel finale per una serie che seguo dall'inizio; alla fine anche Zane e jeanie Belle hanno il loro happy ending mentre il mondo intorno a loro sta collassando e l'epidemia continua a spargersi e mietere vittime, anche illustri. Addio a tutte le coppie che abbiamo conosciuto nel corso degli anni, dalle piú recenti alle prime. Non credo che seguirò lo spin-off, ma é stato bello conoscere questi personaggi.

Another "different" book on the brain, but this time it is about the way our brain shaped the world around us, plus some other interesting insights about AI and computers.This one is also a not so easy book, but even if you are not expert on the subject, the whole concepts are really well explained and gave me a lot of food for thoughts.

Un altro libro "diverso" sul cervello, che racconta il modo in cui il cervello stesso ha "forgiato" il mondo intorno a noi, piú alcuni interessanti insights sull'intelligenza artificiale e i supercomputer. Anche questo non é un libro facile, ma anche per i non esperti sull'argomento, i concetti sono ben spiegati e soprattutto fanno riflettere parecchio.

Questo libro lo cercavo da tempo immemore dopo averne lette alcune pagine a casa di un'amica e nonostante le altissime aspettative, direttamente proporzionali ai 4 anni passati nel frattempo, non sono rimasta affatto delusa, anzi.
La lettura che l'autore dà delle cittá é interessantissima e secondo me anche molto azzeccata, inoltre il fatto stesso che lui sia, a sua volta, un expat, in qualche modo me lo rende affine e anche molto piú comprensibile di quanto potrebbe esserlo per qualcuno che é nato e cresciuto in un piccolo paese, senza mai spostarsi per esempio, anche perché ci sono cose che non é possibile spiegare e che si possono solo vivere e sperare per il meglio.
Da leggere assolutamente.

This book was not bad, and by now I'm quite used to the Cabot sisters, but in some way it was too complicated, the various adventures of Roan and Prudence, even if only momentary, seemed to me excessive and the end perhaps too fast. Now I only have Mercy to wait for and I hope not too long.

Questo libro non era male, io ormai poi alle sorelle Cabot mi ci sono abituata, peró in qualche modo é stato troppo complicato, le varie peripezie di Roan e Prudence anche se solo momentanee, mi sono sembrate eccessive e il finale forse troppo accelerato. Ora mi resta solo Mercy e speriamo di non dover aspettare tanto.

Zola Neale Hurston has long been one of my favorite writers and even this collection of stories has not disappointed me. I admit the usual difficulty in understanding the language spoken in direct speech, which most of the time I can only intuit, but her stories are, once again, memorable and they make me imagine almost perfectly that America of a century ago.

Zola Neale Hurston é da tempo una delle mie scrittrici preferite e anche questa sua raccolta di storie non mi ha deluso. Ammetto la solita difficoltá nel comprendere la lingua parlata nei discorsi diretti, che il piú delle volte mi limito ad intuire, ció non toglie che i suoi racconti sono, ancora una volta, memorabili e riescono a farmi immaginare in modo quasi perfetto quell'America di un secolo fa.

Molto interessante e scritto appositamente per le donne, questo libro esplora i molteplici benefici di una dieta chetogenica e tutte le eventuali implicazioni che questo potrebbe avere. Ci sono molte spiegazioni scientifiche, ma non tante ricette, quindi se state cercando una serie di ricette potreste rimanerci male, ma se invece siete alla ricerca di una dieta scientificamente supportata, questo libro potrebbe rispondere a molte delle vostre domande, specialmente se siete delle donne.

The story of the author and the story of Buddha are told in alternate chapters and they are, in a way, complementary. I got some very good insights and some suggestions to meditate, we will see....

Great story that involves the Justice League and Ra's Al Ghul and his daughter Talia and of course, Batman. What does friendship means to Batman? And he is really able to trust somebody? Great Illustrations and plot. Looking forward to more Justice League!

Grande storia che vede come protagonisti la Justice league, Ra's Al Ghul e la figlia Talia e naturalmente il mio preferito: Batman. Che cosa significa l'amicizia per Batman? Ma lui é capace di fidarsi davvero di qualcuno? Grandi disegni e trama, non vedo l'ora di leggere altro della Justice League!

Mi annovero tra coloro che amano i libri e credo che per noi cultori della materia, poche cose siano migliori di un libro che parla di libri, come in questo caso. Martin Amis si lega a filo doppio con suo padre e con Eco tra coloro i quali scrivono migliori saggi piuttosto che romanzi e questa raccolta delle sue recensioni per "The Guardian" su alcuni dei "mostri sacri" del 1900 é un libro fantastico. Mi ha dato la possibilitá di scoprire nuovi libri, quelli di Rushdie, Capote e Bellow tanto per dirne alcuni, e approfondire vecchi amori come Nabakov, Roth, Updike e De Lillo. Cosa vuoi di piú dalla vita? Un Burroughs o un Ballard?

La prima volta che l'ho letto non mi ha disturbato tanto quanto questa, forse perché non ero ancora diventata mamma. Stavolta arrivare in fondo mi é costato molto di piú, nonostante sia scritto in modo eccezionale. La storia si conosce, ma sarebbe il caso di fare piú attenzione alle descrizioni delle sensazioni, degli stati d'animo e anche dei luoghi, perché Nabakov é stato uno dei migliori scrittori del mondo e credo lo rimarrá per sempre. Lolita, luce della mia vita, fuoco dei miei lombi.

Fantastic book, totally hilarious and full of interesting facts and anecdotes scientifically explained with pictures and jokes. Probably the best way to get kids interested in science and adults too. Go straight to the paper version because with so many pictures it is better not to wait to much for every page to load.

Libro fantastico, assolutamente divertente e pieno di fatti ed aneddoti spiegati scientificamente attraverso disegni e battute spiritose. Probabilmente il miglior modo per interessare i bambini alla scienza, e forse anche gli adulti. Consiglio la versione cartacea del libro perché tutte le immagini rendono il libro in formato elettronico di difficile fruizione.

I liked what I understood, but I am not sure that what I understood is what Gibson wrote, or at last the plot of his novel. Well, thank God this is a work of fiction and I do not have to show that I understood it :)

Quello che ho capito della trama mi é piaciuto, non saprei comunque dire se quello che ho capito era la storia che ha scritto Gibson. Per fortuna essendo questo un libro di fantascienza non devo spiegare a nessuno quello che ho letto :)

I am a little bit disappointed by this book, because I thought that it would have taken its examples from books, but it is mostly all about movies and I am not a movie expert. So I am sure that I would have enjoyed the book a lot more if I knew the films that it was talking about, but it was not like that and in the end it was boring.

Sono un po' delusa da questo libro, perché pensavo che avrebbe fatto esempi tratti dai libri, mentre in effetti ha parlato quasi esclusivamente di film, e io non ne conoscevo praticamente nessuno con l'esclusione di Mad Max. Quindi sono sicura che se fossi stata una cinefila avrei apprezzato sicuramente questo saggio molto di piú, ma non é stato cosí e mi sono anche annoiata.
