Review: Life Out of Order

Obviously, this book carried the considerable weight of my extremely high expectations, because—even though, twenty years later, I only had a vague idea of the plot of *The Time Traveler’s Wife*—it had left me with such a wonderful feeling that I counted it among my all-time favorite books.
Given this backdrop, disappointment was almost guaranteed—and in the end, that’s exactly what happened. For one thing, there’s perhaps a bit too much going on at once and a bit too many perfect characters; furthermore, Alba’s questionable choices make the memory of Clare and Henry seem unattainable, just as the all-too-real backdrop of the first 100 years of this millennium offers no hope whatsoever, regardless of what Isadora says. Nevertheless, it’s worth reading and you’ll surely enjoy it, partly because almost all the old characters are back and Niffenegger writes in a particularly fluid style. But that’s enough.

Ovviamente questo libro si portava dietro il peso non indifferente delle mie altissime aspettative, perché, pur avendo dopo vent'anni una vaga idea della trama de "La moglie dell'uomo che viaggiava nel tempo", mi aveva lasciato una cosí bella sensazione da annoverarlo tra i miei libri preferiti di sempre. Con questa premessa la delusione era quasi garantita e alla fine cosí é stato, intanto perché forse c'é un po' troppa carne al fuoco e un po' troppi personaggi perfetti, inoltre le scelte discutibili di Alba lasciano il ricordo di Clare ed Henry irraggiungibile, cosí come lo sfondo persino troppo reale dei primi 100 anni di questo millennio non danno nessuna speranza a prescindere da quello che dice Isadora. Cionostante va letto e sicuramente piacerá, anche perché ci sono quasi tutti i vecchi personaggi e la Niffenegger scrive in uno stile particolarmente scorrevole. Ora basta peró.
