Some of the things I read in this book are innovative, others are uselessly provocative, and some others totally superficial (your usual De Botton), but in the end it was a worth reading that helped me to see art under a different perspective.

Alcune delle cose che ho letto in questo libro sono piuttosto innovative, altre inutilmente provocatoria ed altre ancora di una superficialità sconcertante (il solito De Botton, tanto per dire una cattiveria), ma alla fine sono stata contenta di aver letto questo libro, e soprattutto di averlo comprato, perché mi ha fornito nuove prospettive di vedere/intendere/capire l'arte.

Nice recipes and great pictures. It would be not easy living in Germany to have all this vegetables and fruit, but it would be nice to try, even if as Italian, I have to admit that I would never eat Burrata for breakfast ;)

Belle ricette e foto fantastiche. Vivendo in Germania non sará facile accedere a tutta quella frutta e verdura fresca o quanto meno di stagione, ma sará divertente provarci, anche se da italiana non mi sognerei mai di mangiare burrata per colazione ;)

Some graffiti are very interesting and beautiful, but mostly there are names written on the walls with funny fonts and more or less details, however, what emerges is a truly spooky Detroit and graffiti just make it slightly less gloomy.

Alcuni graffiti sono veramente molto belli, ma la maggior parte sono scritte sui muri con caratteri piú o meno particolari, comunque quella che emerge é una Detroit veramente spettrale, che i graffiti rendono leggermente meno lugubre.

Come "Open city" raccontava di New York, questo libro, corredato anche di fotografie, descrive Lagos, la capitale della Nigeria, attraverso gli occhi dello stesso protagonista del libro precedente, che poi non é altro che l'alter ego dell'autore. Una cittá che non riesce a stare dietro alla velocitá con cui cresce, si modifica, in cui la corruzione regna sovrana, la violenza scoppia con troppa facilitá e con la stessa facilitá viene dimenticata, tutto é rapido, non c'é nemmeno il tempo di indignarsi, ma intanto lo scrittore ci offre dei fantastici insight sul modo che ha il suo popolo di gestire le situazioni, di aiutarsi tra loro, di cercare il meglio anche nei momenti drammatici, di essere incapaci di ammettere di non essere felici, di accontentarsi.

Molto bello, sicuramente da leggere, specialmente dopo aver letto Open City che é molto piu faticoso da finire.

Nice pictures and I appreciated that there were both German and English explanations. Interesting and makes you think more about animals and plants even if you live in a big city like I do.

Come trasformare una casa giá bella di per sé, nella casa dei sogni attraverso un uso smodato di cuscini, tappezzerie varie e vasi di tutte le forme e dimensioni. Non che il risultato non ci sia, ma a mio modo di vedere queste case americane le hanno fatte "troppo cariche".
