Ruta Sepetys has always been considered a YA author, but this is the first book that I read where i think that yes, this may be the problem. The book was not bad, but I found it, in a way, to be written for children, who do not have to be scared and can handle not so much. I am not an expert in Franco's Spain, but I am in Mussolini's Italy and I do not think that there were so many differences, and this situation is very understated in the story. So this put a sort of distance between me and the characters of the book and this never happened with the previous book and it is also sad, but I appreciate her former novels a little bit more than this one.
Ruta Sepetys é stata sempre considerata una scrittrice YA, ma nel mio caso posso affermare di non essermene mai accorta fino alla lettura di questo suo ultimo romanzo. Il libro non era male, magari un po' troppo lungo per caritá, ma quello che mi ha in qualche modo allontanato dai personaggi é sia il fatto che fossero in qualche modo gestiti in modo da lasciare fuori i problemi e le difficoltá, sia il fatto che l'ambientazione nella Spagna di Franco fosse, secondo me chiaramente, descritta in modo quasi dimesso. Ora io non sono un'esperta del franchismo, ma credo che non ci fossero poi tantissime differenze con il fascismo, ma magari mi sbaglio. Per tornare al libro comunque, questa distanza mi ha quindi allontanato dal libro che non mi sono goduta come gli altri e che forse non consiglierei nemmeno caldamente di leggere.
