This is not your usual Ilona Andrews, this is much more darker and there's a lot of violence and no sex, but still it's a good starting book for a new series and I'm looking forward to read the rest.

Non é il solito Urban Fantasy a cui ci hanno abituato gli Ilona Andrews, è molto piú cupo e violento, inoltre l'eventuale storia d'amore é appena accennato e il sesso manca quasi del tutto se non nelle fantasie della protagonista. Nonostante questo io l'ho trovato un buon inizio per l'ennesima nuova serie di cui non sentivo la mancanza, ma che ora non vedo l'ora di leggere.

I will have to prove all the meditations, but they seem interesting and easy enough. Some of things the author says are also a lot of food for thoughts to if you think that confidence is not your strongest point you should try it, I will dedicate myself to learn to say NO.

Dovró provare tutte le meditazioni proposte dall'autrice, ma sembrano interessanti e fattibili. Alcune delle cose che dice poi mi hanno fatto riflettere, quindi direi che se la sicurezza in voi stessi non é il vostro forte, dovreste leggere questo libro, io mi dedicheró in particolare al modo di imparare a dire NO.

Di de Giovanni amo la saga de "I bastardi di Pizzofalcone" quindi, quando ho trovato in biblioteca le prime indagini di Ricciardi ho preso la palla al balzo, ma purtroppo sono rimasta piuttosto interdetta da questi brevi racconti in cui il commissario in questione si rivela una specie di medium che parla con i morti; mi sembra piuttosto chiaro che poi il giallo prende tutta un'altra piega se le vittime stesse ti danno indicazioni, ad onor del vero poco chiare, sui loro assassini. Per ora quindi giudizio sospeso.

This was a book by Faulkner, so good anyway, but I'm pretty sure I lost the train of thought along the story (ok I have read it all in a bookshop without buying it while I was waiting a friend - it was a long wait). So I have mixed feelings because I had to run trough it.

Siccome lo ha scritto Faulkner, questo libro per me é bello di default, ma credo di aver perso il filo del discorso mentre lo leggevo (l'ho letto velocemente mentre aspettavo un'amica in libreria, é stata una lunga attesa) quindi non so bene come parlarne.

Come anche il libro su Chernobyl, ho impiegato parecchio tempo per finire questo volume di interviste a persone comuni che sono vissute attraverso il passaggio dall'Unione Sovietica all'attuale confederazione. La maggior parte delle conversazioni riportate mostra come, almeno il 90% della popolazione non ha tratto, e duole dirlo, nessun tipo di beneficio dalla caduta del comunismo, se non una maggior libertá di parola, sempre a patto che non vivano in Cecenia, Bielorussia o Nagorno Karabakh, chiaramente. Quindi che conclusioni trarre, non lo so, leggetelo e fate le vostre considerazioni.

Since I had no idea who the author of this book was, I read it as if a librarian were recommending books to me and in the process adding details of her life. Of course, the second part interested me very little, but at least I added many books to my already endless list of ones I would like to read....

Siccome non avevo idea di chi fosse l'autrice di questo libro, l'ho letto come se una bibliotecaria mi raccomandasse dei libri e nel frattempo ci aggiungesse dettagli della sua vita. Ovviamente la seconda parte mi interessava pochissimo, ma almeno ho aggiunto molti libri alla mia giá infinita lista di quelli che mi piacerebbe leggere...

A very dry book, whose story seems easy to imagine from the beginning, but takes strange turns that you don't expect instead. It certainly provides a lot of food for thought, but you can also just read it for the love story told between the metaphors, if you don't want to try so hard.

Un libro molto asciutto, la cui storia sembra facilmente immaginabile dall'inizio, ma prende strane strade che invece non ci si aspetta. Sicuramente fornisce parecchi spunti di riflessione, ma si puó anche semplicemente leggere per la storia d'amore raccontata tra le metafore, se non si ha voglia di impegnarsi tanto.

I have to admit that I found this book totally boring, mostly because I already know what was going to happen in Germany in 1933 and because the main characters were as interesting as a dish of salad. Dodd's family were not only boring but, even if something interesting happened to them, the way the author told it, made the story hard to survive, that's why I struggled to get to an end of the book.

Devo ammettere che ho trovato questo libro mortalmente noioso, sia perché ero al corrente (come la maggior parte del resto del mondo immagino) di quello che accadde in Germania nel 1933 e nei successivi 4 anni, ma anche perché i personaggi principali erano veramente pesantissimi. La famiglia Dodd non é solo noiosa, ma anche quando gli capita qualcosa di interessante, il modo dell'autore di raccontarla rende il tutto pallosissimo, questo quindi mi ha fatto arrivare alla fine del libro stanca come se avessi corso una maratona.

Non é stato facile leggere questo libro, fondamentalmente perché io amo il Giappone, senza esserci mai stata e avendolo costruito nella mia mente, mentre Angela Terzani lo odia e quando non lo odia profondamente lo detesta cordialmente. Il suo modo di raccontarlo mi ricorda moltissimo il mio disprezzare amichevolmente i tedeschi e la Germania, ma come dice il saggio, scherzando si dicono moltissime veritá. Quello che racconta la scrittrice nei suoi diari, é comunque un Giappone di quasi 30 anni fa, mentre l'economia la faceva Reagan (e giá questo é ridicolo di per sé) e cadevano muri e cortine di ferro; qualcosa mi fa pensare che le cose ora siano diverse, quanto meno dal punto di vista economico, ma magari mi sbaglio e come dice lei il Giappone continua a lavorare nell'ombra per rifarsi sul piano economico di una guerra che non avrebbe mai dovuto perdere, un po' come la Germania in Europa.

Although this "collection" of characters includes some stereotypes that hardened readers can easily recognize and identify with, the plot itself doesn't hold up, the book is rather slow, despite the fact that everything happens within a week / ten days more or less, and it was not easy, as far as I'm concerned, to get to the end.

Per quanto questa "raccolta" di personaggi, annovera alcuni stereotipi che i lettori piú incalliti possono facilmente riconoscere ed in loro riconoscersi, la trama di per sé regge poco, il libro é piuttosto lento, nonostante tutto accada nell'arco di una settimana/dieci giorni piú o meno, e non é stato facile, per quanto mi riguarda, arrivare alla fine.

This should have been the last book on this series, but I'm happy it's not. I likes Clare and War's story even if it was really stretched thin, but still enjoyable, specially because I got to see all the Woodleys together again and they are one of my favorite family.

Questo sarebbe dovuto essere l'ultimo libro di questa serie, che invece andrá avanti e la cosa non mi dispiace. Mi é piaciuta la storia di Claire e War, anche se era piuttosto incredibile, ma divertente e soprattutto ho rivisto tutto il clan dei Woodley, che mi stanno proprio simpatici.
