Very interesting from time to time, some topic were just too boring for me, but the whole book war really appreciated. It seemed also very poignant and the fact that Alex Kerr and Michael Zielenziger, starting from two very different points arrive at almost the same conclusion, so I hope that all the Japanese get very fast to that conclusion also.....

Molto interessante, la maggior parte delle volte, alcuni argomenti erano proprio troppo noiosi per quanto mi riguarda, ma il libro in generale mi ha fatto una gran bella impressione. Inoltre trovo veramente particolare il fatto che due autori come Alex Kerr e Michael Zielenzinger, partendo da due punti di vista molto differenti e lontani tra di loro (l'arte giapponese per il primo e la psicologia degli Hikikomori per il secondo) arrivino comunque alle stesse conclusioni. Spero ci arrivino presto anche i giapponesi stessi....

Spettacolare, erano anni che non mi divertivo a leggere un romanzo di Umberto Eco, anzi, ho ancora stampata in memoria l'agonia procuratami da "L'isola del giorno prima" uno dei pochi libri a cui non sono arrivata in fondo. L'apoteosi del complotto: il giornale destinato a non uscire mai, il sosia di mussolini, gladio, licio gelli, il papa ed il fallito golpe di Borghese (con la gentile partecipazione della forestale). Anche se all'inizio mi sembrava di leggere Genna, devo ammettere che nemmeno a lui sarebbe riuscito di scrivere così bene, almeno secondo me.

Questa é probabilmente una delle poche serie che continueró a leggere anche se mi sarebbe piaciuto che in questo libro ci fosse stata un po' di piú la vecchia Dani e non cosí tanti problemi tra Mac e JB. La storia era comunque buona e ora non posso fare a meno di aspettare il prossimo libro, ma se l'autrice continua cosí, i prossimi saranno due lunghi anni....

Well, in my opinion this was more a thriller than a romance, the couple were too involved in searching for the culprit to give the romance a lot of thought, So I was a little disappointed, but I liked it anyway, and I even hadn't guessed who the killer was almost till the end...

Questo, secondo me, piú che un libro d'amore era un giallo e la coppia era molto piú coinvolta nel cercare il colpevole piú che dai loro sentimenti. Quindi in realtá, nonostante mi sia divertita e non abbia indovinato chi fosse l'assasino quasi fino alla fine, sono rimasta un po' delusa.

I love this series, every book is better than the other and in every book we get to know the Scholars better, and they are great, like their women. This time Portia and Grayson risk it all, and we look at them flying from an Harem in Alexandria and surviving an attack in Calais, while the plot get ticker and ticker. We'll see, in the mean time I cannot wait to read the next book.

Mi piace molto questa serie, ogni libro é meglio del precedente ed in ogni romanzo conosciamo un po' meglio i sei scolari, che sembrano essere uno meglio dell'altro, come le loro compagne. Questa volta Porzia e Grayson rischiamo tanto, e li vediamo scappare da un Harme ad Alessandria d'Egitto e sopravviere ad un attacco a Calais, mentre la trama s'infittisce. Staremo a vedere, intanto non vedo l'ora di leggere il prossimo libro.

Bello, molto bello, e pensare che credevo ci fosse un solo Andrea Sperelli e nel frattempo mi ero persa Des Esseintes... Lo spleen, la noia, o citando un famoso: "l'insostenibile leggerezza dell'essere" il tutto emerge in questo piccolo capolavoro con una forza straordinaria. Esepio ne é la storia della tartaruga, che arricchita e modificata fino al punto di diventare un gioiello vivente, muore, come se la ricerca del bello non potesse che avere una fine prestabilita. Mi chiedo davvero perché nessuno mi abbia mai detto di leggere questo libro.

Questa non é un vero romanzo second me, perché é una satira di quanto sta succedendo attualmente negli Stati Uniti, ma potrebbe essere tranquillamente anche una satira di quanto sta accadendo anche in Italia, e dico Italia perché é il posto che conosco meglio. Quindi direi che la storia é vera, ma é solo raccontata attraverso personaggi finti....

Very well written, interesting, this book connects so many subjects together (economy, philosophy and psychology for example) that in the end it seems to me that Japan is no more an unknown world. I have only doubts about the prognosis, and I really hope that, somewhere, the author made a mistake so the future is not so dark for our oriental friends.

Molto bello, interessante, ben scritto. Questo libro connette cosí tanti argomenti ( per esempio l'economia con la filosofia, la sociologia e la religione) che alla fine il Giappone sembra non solo ben noto, ma anche ovviamente destinato ad una brutta fine. Siccome mi piace sperare che non sia cosí, non resta che augurarsi che l'autore abbia fatto qualche errore procedurale e il futuro non sia cosí oscuro per i nostri amici orientali....

Libro strano, affascinante, in cui la storia dei protagonisti, quella dell'autore e quella dell'Iran si accavallano e si mischiano con le leggende, le poesie degli autori persiani, le storie delle 1001 notte. Molto bello, particolare, da leggere assolutamente.

I have mixed feelings for this book, because in many ways a didn't like it, there was too much violence, but in other ways I was fascinated by the story of the Wicked Anthony and the strong but innocent Melissa. Interesting the slave trade and the white trade behind all the plot.

Questo libro mi ha lasciato con dei sentimenti contrastanti, perché se per tanti versi non mi é piaciuto in quanto piendo di violenza, allo stesso tempo la storia che si é sviluppata tra Anthony e Melissa mi é piaciuta tanto. Ho trovato inoltre interessante le informazioni sulla tratta degli schiavi e delle bianche.

I have not read all the essays that are collected in this volume, my love for Nabokov is not so big, anyway some of them are remarkables, some other are just the same words (when he does not contradict himself) in a different order. I would recommend this book only to the biggest fan of the author.

Non ho letto tutti i saggi raccolti in questo volume, il mio amore per Nabokov non é cosí grande, ma alcuni sono veramente interessanti, mentre altri sono solo una ripetizione (quando l'autore non si contraddice). Consiglierei questa raccolta solo ai veri amanti di questo scrittore, per gli altri le raccolte delle lezioni di letteratura sono piú che sufficienti.

Interesting essay about power, about how you can define, calculate and measure any increase and decrease of it. Now power is in decline, says the author, and through a "brief history" of power, shows how current places of so-called "power" no longer have the same "power" of the past. There are several plausible explanations for this then, including the increase of the world population, the culture medium and the ease with which information travels over the network. I thought it was going to be a boring book, instead it was pretty easy and fast to read.

Interessante saggio sul potere, su come lo si possa definire, calcolare e misurarne eventualmente crescita e decrescita. Proprio di una sua diminuzione parla l'autore e, attraverso una "breve storia" del potere, illustra come attualmente i posti cosidetti di "potere" non hanno piú la stessa "potenza" di un tempo. CI sono per questo poi varie spiegazioni plausibili, tra cui l'aumento della popolazione mondiale, della cultura media e della facilitá con cui le informazioni viaggiano sulla rete. Pensavo sarebbe stato un libro noioso, invece si é rivelato facile e veloce da leggere.

Luckily, many of the problems that plague Americans concerning the food, here in Europe are not so big, but we can only hope that it will always be like that because it is clear that the money rules anywhere. Interesting book and full of good ideas that can be both easy or difficult to implement, but still they cover the vast field of food from beginning to end, and even if we can not put into practice everything, also start from somewhere, perhaps the simplest, it would not hurt.

Per fortuna molti dei problemi che affliggono gli americani dal punto di vista alimentare, qui in Europa non esistono proprio, ma non é detto che sia sempre cosí perché é chiaro che i soldi comandano ovunque. Libro interessante e pieno di buone idee che possono essere sia di facile che di difficile attuazione, ma comunque coprono il vasto campo del cibo dall'inizio alla fine, e anche se non riusciamo a mettere in pratica tutto quanto, anche iniziare da qualche punto, magari quello piú semplice, non sarebbe male.

Sono praticamente disperata, ma per fortuna ho giá il seguente tra le mani e magari compensa.

Eccessivo, pieno di troppi colpi di scena di cui, tutto sommato si poteva fare a meno, come anche del fatto che l'ennesimo autore maschio fa innamorare la sua eroina femmina dell'uomo palesemente sbagliato, ma talmente sbagliato che insomma......come giá detto, eccessivo.
Leggerò il prossimo per dovere di recensione comunque, sembra che venda parecchio e quindi l'hanno tradotto in inglese per il mercato americano e me l'hanno mandato.

There are films that make you want to read the book, and "The 25th Hour" by Spike Lee is one of those, thankfully I would add, considering that this novel is a masterpiece. Written by an author whom I had already appreciated for "The City of Thieves" and that I found to be also one of the writers of the screenplay of "Games of Thrones", this book is just perfect: never a word that is too much, never granted even if the plot in itself does not leave much room for maneuver and a cast of characters (starting with the dog) absolutely unforgettable. Beautiful, beautiful, totally beautiful.

Ci sono film che ti fanno venire voglia di leggere il libro, e "La 25a ora" di Spike Lee é uno di quelli, per fortuna aggiungerei, considerato che questo romanzo é un piccolo capolavoro. Scritto da un autore che avevo giá apprezzato per "La cittá dei ladri" e che ho scoperto essere anche uno degli sceneggiatori di "Games of Thrones", questo libro é semplicemente perfetto: mai una parola di troppo, mai scontato anche se la trama stessa non lascia poi cosí tanto spazio di manovra e un cast di protagonisti a cominciare dal cane, assolutamente indimenticabili. Bello, bello, proprio tanto bello.

This book could be summed up as if "On Writing" had been written by Groucho Marx. Jokes aside, I do not know Kurt Vonnegut so much, I read some of his books but he is not one of my favorite author, still his student Suzanne McConnell gave us such a deep knowledge of her teacher, that it seems like he is a friend of mine right now. I am not so interested in writing a book right now, but if you are, this good is one of the best place to start.

Se dovessi riassumere in breve questo libro, direi che sembra quasi "On writing" scritto da Groucho Marx. A parte gli scherzi non sono una grande esperta di Vonnegutt, ma la sua studentessa (ed autrice del libro) Suzanne McConnell ci fornisce uno spaccato cosí intenso della vita del suo professore, che mi sembra quasi sia un amico ora. Inoltre, in questo momento scrivere un libro non mi interessa particolarmente, ma se dovessi farlo, questo volume é un ottimo punto di partenza.

Interessante visione della disciplina e del modo di usarla in modo poco stressante. A cominciare dall'identificare gli antecedenti del comportamento ed in seguito le sue conseguenze, gli autori offrono trucchi e suggerimento per gestire i problemi piú comuni. Affascinante nella sua semplicitá.
