Mark Rothko: From the Inside Out by Christopher Rothko

I picked up this book from Netgalley because once, in Rome, I went to see one of Rothko's exhibition and even if I couldn't explain why, I found it totally fascinating. Now that I can understand his vision a little bit better the magic didn't disappear but this book is not easy and it's better if there are is previous knowledge of the artistic world in general.
Ho scelto questo libro da Netgalley perché tanti anni fa, a Roma, ho visto un'esposizione di Rothko, che non conoscevo per niente, ma che mi é piaciuta molto. Dopo la lettura di questo libro qualcosa é cambiato, ma non la magia che hanno i suoi quadri per me, comunque questo volume non é proprio semplicissimo e magari avere precedenti conoscenze di storia dell'arte puó aiutare.

This is a serious book which is also very funny and maybe irony is the key to handle problems in a better and more useful way. Instead of keep on thinking that we are not good enough or that we don't have enough willpower why not start thinking of what we have already done so far? This is just one of the many suggestions in this book where the old famous law of therapy, to formulate your ideas in positive instead of using negation, is most powerful.
Questo é un libro serio che peró fa anche ridere e forse l'ironia potrebbe essere la chiave per gestire i problemi in modo migliore e piú utile. Invece di continuare a pensare che non siamo abbastanza ...... o che non abbiamo forza di volontá perché non riconoscerci quello che abbiamo ottenuto fino a quel momento? Questo é solo uno dei tanti suggerimenti che si basa su una delle regole fondamentali della terapia e che prevede di formulare le nostre proposizioni in positivo piuttosto che in negativo e questo, ci rende molto piú potenti.

And with this volume, the series set in Cold River and centered on the founding families should have come to an end, but I think it will continue with the "criminal" family instead, but I could be wrong.
Zack and Janie aren't a particularly memorable couple, but by then I couldn't skip them anyway.
E con questo volume, la serie ambientata a Cold River e centrata sulle famiglie fondatrici sarebbe dovuto arrivare alla fine, ma mi sa che invece si prosegue con la famiglia di "criminali", ma mi potrei sbagliare. Zack e Janie non sono una coppia particolarmente indimenticabile, ma ormai ero arrivata alla fine e non potevo saltarli.

It is not the first time that I read a book that promises the reader that it will allow him to achieve a better fitness in less time and fatigue distributed differently. Of course it could be the right one and the author certainly has sources and quotes, but I always remain skeptical, because it seems to me that there are a number of easy generalizations, accentuated by the stories collected by the author and whose characters have ages ranging from youth to old age.
Non é la prima volta che leggo un libro che promette al lettore che gli permetterá di raggiungere una migliore forma fisica in minor tempo e una fatica distribuita diversamente. Per caritá potrebbe essere quello giusto e sicuramente l'autore porta fonti e citazioni, ma io resto sempre abbastanza scettica, perché mi sembra che ci siano una serie di facili generalizzazioni, accentuate dalle storie raccolte dall'autore e i cui personaggi hanno un'etá che varia dalla giovinezza alla vecchiaia.

Another alpha male and a spirited female, good story, probably the introduction to the next one with Ronnie and one other brother whose name I forgot, anyway best thins are always Dage and Emma matchmaking.
Un altro maschio alfa e un'altra donna che non si lascia sottomettere facimente, probabilmente la novella servirá da introduzione per la storia di Ronnie e di un altro fratello il cui nome ho dimenticato, comunque la cosa migliore della storia restano le apparizioni di Dage ed Emma che vogliono sistemare tutti i sudditi del reame.

Another good book by Yasmina Khadra, this time we don't dwell with Muslims but with African pirates and kidnappers. The story of Kurt doesn't take a long span of time but it's so dense that it seems a bigger book than 300 pages more or less. The complications of a marriage life, the need to help, the delusion of knowing our spouse so well to remain astonish when something incredible happens. All this topics and more in this novel that gives a lot of food for thoughts.
Un altro bel libro di Yasmina Khadra, ma stavolta non abbiamo a che fare con i mussulmani, quanto piuttosto con i pirati somali, guerriglieri e rapitori. La storia di questo libro non prende tanto tempo ma é cosí densa che non sembra di aver letto solo 300 pagine (piú o meno). Le complicazioni della vita matrimoniale, il bisogno di aiutare chi ne ha bisogno, l'illusione di conoscere il nostro coniuge cosí bene che quando succede l'incredibile non riusciamo ad accettarlo. Tutti questi argomenti e molti di piú in questo libro che offre veramente molti spunti di riflessione.

Like Family by Paolo Giordano, Anne Milano Appel (Translation)

I knew that I should have read this book in Italian, but the translation is not bad at all and in the end this is a nice novel that doesn't really go down deep, but still gives some food for thoughts. A young couple, an old woman who takes care of them, the problems of the everyday life and the loss of everything you keep taking for granted.
Lo so che avrei dovuto leggerlo in italiano, ma la traduzione non era male e alla fine é una storia che, pur restando parecchio in superficie, offre qualche spunto di riflessione. Una giovane coppia, una vecchia signora che si prende cura prima di loro e poi anche del figlio, i problemi della vita di tutti i giorni e la perdita di tutto quello che eravamo arrivati a dare per scontato.

The Striker (Highland Guard, #10) by Monica McCarty

This was by far one of the best novels from the Highland Guards series and as I only miss one to read I'm pretty sure this is going to be my favorite. Eoin and Maggie have all the carachteristics to be two super strong charachters and sparks fly between them, even when he is sure she betrayed him.
Questa é sicuramente la migliore delle varie storie della serie Highland Guards e siccome ne dovrebbe mancare solo una sono anche certa che rimarrá la mia preferita. Eoin e Maggie fanno scintille assieme e sono due bei personaggi e poi il misunderstanding fra loro rende la storia, a mio modo di vedere, perfetta.
