Mila é cattiva e pericolosissima e in assoluto uno dei miei personaggi preferiti anche perché é talmente eccessiva da passare il romanzo da giallo/noir a fastasy/supereroi, ma vale sempre la pena.

I think that it's such a pity when a book is so full of potential but it doesn't use it, like this one. The situation of the city and the story of the people was great and even the two orphans trying to survive was not bad, but, my God, Olivia was so insufferable that I cannot stand her, if she weren't one of the main character I would have skipped all the pages about her or wherever she appears. Plus Rosemary is an idiot. That said the book is not bad, but it could have been much better.
Io penso che sia un vero peccato quando un libro é pieno di potenziale ma poi non lo sfrutta, come questo qui. L'ambientazione é fantastica e anche i poteri della gente, persino i due orfani che devono sopravvivere, per quanto super giá visti, sono intriganti, ma.....MIO DIO Olivia non si sopporta proprio, se non fosse stato deleterio ai fini della comprensione avrei saltato tutte le pagine dove appare. Oltretutto Rosemary é proprio scema. Detto questo, il libro non é male, ma sarebbe potuto essere molto meglio.

As this book was originally written in Italian and mostly it's all about the author deciding to write in another language (Italian instead of English) it would have been very nice when the publisher would have advertise in the beginning of the book the after the translation there was going to be the original version, instead I read half of the book in English and almost in the middle, it started again in Italian, that upset me a lot. The book anyway is interesting in a way, looking at the struggles involved in learning a new language, which is something I can relate very well as an Italian living in Berlin.
Siccome questo libro é stato originariamente scritto in Italiano e soprattutto riguarda proprio la fatica e il desiderio dell'autrice di scrivere in una lingua diversa dall'inglese, sarebbe stato molto utile se la casa editrice avesse avvertito all'inizio del libro che, dopo la traduzione inglese, seguiva la versione originale in italiano, che mi sarebbe interessata molto di piú, invece no, a metá libro la storia finisce e ricomincia in italiano e questo mi ha innervosito parecchio. Comunque anche se brece il libro é interessante: considerare la fatica dell'autrice nell'imparare una nuova lingua é qualcosa che capisco molto bene come italiana residente a Berlino.

The author chooses some very famous sayings ("tropical forest, lung of the earth", or "there is no gravity in space") and/or topics that are often in the news (right now the term is viruses/pandemics, for example) and with very simple words and clear examples, he explains what is right and what is wrong in what the non-scientists among us tend to think they know or have understood.
I liked the book, but I thought it was a debunking of fake news, with a lot of "names and surnames" of some fake sites that should have been closed long ago. So inform yourself well before buying this book because you may have in your hands, something different from what you expected.
L'autore sceglie alcuni modi di dire molto famosi ("foresta tropicale polmone della terra", oppure "non c'é gravitá nello spazio") e/o argomenti che ricorrono spesso agli onori delle cronache (in questo momento il termine é virus/pandemie, per esempio) e con parole molto semplici ed esempi chiari, spiega cosa c'é di giusto e cosa di sbagliato in quello che, tendenzialmente, i non scienziati tra di noi pensano di sapere o di aver capito.
Il libro mi é piaciuto, ma credevo fosse un debunking di fake news, con tanto di "nomi e cognomi" di alcuni siti farsa che dovrebbero essere giá stati chiusi da tempo. Quindi informatevi bene prima di comprarlo perché potreste avere anche voi tra le mani, qualcosa di diverso da quello che vi aspettavate.

I really liked this book, because it offers a vision that allows, or at least allowed me, to rethink some situations that had been bothering me for years, in a new frame.
It is not that it hurts less, but it is certainly more useful not only to bear the pain, but also to learn something more about ourselves and others.
Questo libro mi é veramente piaciuto molto, perché offre una visione che permette, o almeno mi ha permesso, di ripensare alcune situazioni che mi disturbavano da anni, in una nuova cornice.
Non é che poi faccia meno male, ma sicuramente é piú utile non solo a sopportare il dolore, ma anche per imparare qualcosa di piú sia su noi stessi che sugli altri.

Nemesis by Philip Roth

One of the saddest book I've ever read. The story of Bucky Cantor overlaps with the stories of the kids he used to take care at the local playground, the story of the New York' Summer of '44, the last months of the Second World War and one of the biggest polio epidemic. Told from the point of view of one of the kids leaves you with many questions, mostly the same the Bucky has: the reason why God allows kids to die, the reason behind love and how egoistical they can be, and then if it's right to decide for somebody else. A wonderful Roth.
In assoluto uno dei libri piú tristi che abbia mai letto. La storia di Bucky Cantor si sovrappone a quella dei bambini che controllava al parco giochi locale, l'estate del '44 a New York, gli ultimi mesi della Seconda Guerra Mondiale e una delle piú terribili epidemie di Poliomelite del periodo antecedente al vaccino. Raccontato dal punto di vista di uno dei bambini, questo libro mi lascia molte domande, quasi tutte le stesse che si pone Bucky nel racconto: le ragioni che ha Dio per lasciare che dei bambini muoiano, le eventuali motivazioni dell'amore e quanto ci puó essere di egoistico e per finire, quanto sia giusto decidere per qualcun altro. Un Roth meraviglioso.

At this time when I'm reading a lot of Cozy Mysteries, Victoria Gilbert remains one of my favorite authors, perhaps because the amateur detective is a librarian, plus Richard never disappoints me either. After so many books, it feels like visiting friends again and I wouldn't mind if in the next one, Kurt had a happy ending too.
In questo periodo in cui sto leggendo molti Cozy Mistery, Victoria Gilbert resta una delle mie autrici preferite, forse perché la amateur detective é una bibliotecaria, inoltre anche Richard non mi delude mai. Dopo tanti libri, sembra di tornare a visitare gli amici e non mi dispiacerebbe che nel prossimo, anche Kurt avesse un happy ending.

It's a useful books full of tips and suggestion to help the kids to learn reading and writing, but it's almost only for English speaking people and that's a pity because very few things can be applied to other languages.
È un libro pieno di utili suggerimenti e "trucchi" che si possono usare per insegnare ai bambini a leggere e scrivere, a patto peró che la lingua in questione sia l'inglese.
