I read "Red Sorghum" a few years ago and did not like it, too many deaths, too many dramas, little history. This book is not like that, but for different reasons, no, one remains: too many deaths. The history of Gugu, aunt of the protagonist and midwife devoted to abortion in order to preserve the Communist one-child policy in China is just terrible. A woman who sacrifices everything on the altar of politics and a man without a backbone that supports her and in away allows also her to kill his unborn child. I have no idea how good is the writing style of the author, since I always read his translations but he got a Noble Prize, but I think I had enough.
Ho letto "Sorgo rosso" qualche anno fa e non mi era piaciuto, troppe morti, troppi drammi, poca storia. Questo libro non mi é piaciuto, ma per motivi diversi, anzi no, uno resta lo stesso: troppe morti. La storia di Gugu, zia del protagonista e ostetrica dedita all'aborto ai fini di preservare la politica comunista del figlio unico in Cina é proprio terribile. Una donna che sacrifica tutto sull'altare della politica e un uomo senza spina dorsale che l'appoggia e in qualche modo le permette di uccidere il figlio non ancora nato. Non ho idea di come possa scrivere l'autore, considerato che ho sempre letto sue traduzioni e il fatto che lui abbia vinto un preio Nobel, ma credo che possa comunque bastare.
