Ho dei sentimenti contrastanti nei confronti di questo libro, soprattutto perché non era quello che mi aspettavo, ma questa é una mia responsabilitá e non dell'autore. Per il resto piú che un libro che celebra l'opera mi é sembrata una somma di persone e pettegolezzi che Mattioli elenca senza lesinare critiche, specialmente nei confronti di coloro i quali sono "colpevoli di ignoranza", ma siccome io mi annovero tra questi, avrei piacere che qualcuno mi insegnasse senza tirarsela poi cosí tanto. Quindi non un libro per "principianti" quanto per coloro che vogliono sentirsi tanto fighi perché quello che leggono ciá lo conoscono.

Wonderful book on the history of music, starting from its evolution since prehistoric times, the adaptations of the Middle Ages, its developments and expansions during the Renaissance, until you get to the present day and the medley of various kinds. Very interesting and very clearly written. As soon as I can I will buy the paper version.

Meraviglioso libro sulla storia della musica, dalla sua evoluzione partendo dai tempi preistorici, gli adattamenti del medioevo, le sue evoluzioni ed ampliamenti durante il rinascimento, fino ad arrivare ad i giorni nostri e ad i vari medley tra i generi. Molto interessante e scritto in modo molto chiaro. Appena posso, metto le mani sul cartaceo.

Some of the people interviewed in this book were already famous, some were going to be very soon, some others were unknown to me, but I'm far from being a Jazz Expert; I found this book really enjoyable and interesting anyway, because it shows the U.S. as they used to be and the evolution not only of a type of music but of an entire nation. So why Trump now? You were doing so good.....

Alcune dei musicisti intervistati in questo libro erano giá famosi a livello mondiale, altri lo stavano diventando mentre ce ne sono un paio che non conoscevo proprio, ma io non sono assolutamente un'esperta di jazz; ho trovato comunque il libro molto interessante, perché non mostra soltanto l'evoluzione di uno stile musicale, ma mostra anche quella di un'intera nazione: gli Stati Uniti. Quidi ora viene da chiedersi come mai Trump, che stavate andando cosí bene.....

Zizek et la situation des réfugiés, comme l'avait aussi déjà dit Rifkin transpose la révolution da culturelle à religieuse. Une critique opportun et prudent dont les solutions pourraient ne pas être si difficile à appliquer s'il y avait un désir de la part des différents gouvernements d'Europe et au-delà.

Zizek e la situazione dei rifugiati, che come aveva giá detto anche Rifkin traspone la rivoluzione da culturale a religiosa. Una critica puntuale ed attenta le cui soluzioni potrebbero poi non essere cosí difficili da applicare se ci fosse il desiderio da parte dei vari governi, europei e non.

The Noise of Time by Julian Barnes

The life of Dimitri Shostakivich according to Julian Barnes, who is, as always one of my favorite author, but this time what it is missing in my opinion, is the atmosphere of the Stalinist Russia, or the atmosphere I think there should have been in that time and place. Barnes is very good in describing the interior torment of the musician but in a way it seems misplaced compared to what it happens. Mixed feelings about this book in the end.

La vita di Dimitri Shostakovich secondo Julian Barnes, che resta uno dei miei scrittori preferiti, ma quello che manca in questo libro, secondo me ovviamente, é l'atmosfera che ritengo avrebbe dovuto esserci nella Russia staliniana del momento, una specie di assenza di contorno. Se Barnes é senza dubbio molto abile nel descrivere l'ansia e i tormenti del musicista, quello che emerge peró é che sembra sempre che lui si stia preoccupando troppo e per niente tanto é piena di cliché e stereotipi l'atmosfera che lo circonda. Direi che questo libro mi ha lasciato sentimenti contrastanti.

This book is a little bit of a Bible for Jazz lovers, but it is importat to buy the e-book version, because of all the links to the you-tube songs. Sometimets it can become a little too technical but anyway when you are very very interested in the subject, there is only to learn.

Questo libro é molto interessante anche se a tratti molto molto tecnico, ma se l'argomenti vi piace c'é solo da imparare. Importante peró é comprare la versione elettronica del saggio, in modo da avere tutti i collegamenti a You-tube delle canzoni citate.

I was expecting something different, with a more careful eye to the musical life of this composer, but this book, however well documented, offers only the vision on the biography of the author, and appointing the works gradually. Clear that it is also useful to know what was going on at that time to the musician to get an idea of the whole situation, but I would have preferred less soap opera and more music.

Mi aspettavo qualcosa di diverso, con un occhio piú attento alla parte musicale della vita di questo compositore, invece questo libro, per quanto ben documentato, offre solo la visione sulla parte biografica dell'autore e nominando le opere via via. Chiaro che serve anche sapere quello che stava succedendo in quel momento al musicista per avere un'idea d'insieme piú chiara del tutto, ma avrei preferito meno telenovela e piú musica.
