Ce BD raconte l'histoire de la traversée en solitaire de Clarisse qui, avec un courage inimaginable pour moi, décide d'essayer et réussit, avec tout ce que cela implique. Les dessins de Maud Benezit rendent très bien, à mon avis, les paratifs et aventures fiévreuses que vit l'héroïne. Une belle histoire qui pourrait aussi être un stimulant pour certains à faire face aux difficultés et aux peurs pour réaliser leurs désirs.

Questa graphic novel racconta la traversata in solitaria di Clarisse, che con un coraggio per me inimmaginabile, decide di provarci e ci riesce, con tutto quello che comporta. I disegni di Maud Benezit rendono molto bene, secondo me, i parativi febbrili e le avventure che vive la protagonista. Una bella storia che potrebbe essere anche di stimoli per alcuni ad affrontare difficoltá e paure per realizzare i propri desideri.

Questo é un libro molto piú serio di quanto il titolo potrebbe far supporre, specialmente se non si conosce l'autore, assurto poi alla gloria eterna con il nobel per l'economia e recentemente per il libro best seller Thinking Fast and slow. Non sono un'economista né ho mai studiato l'argomento, questo libro peró é chiarissimo e poi anche relativamente piú semplice per me perché parla delle "infiltrazioni" della psicologia nell'affinarsi delle teorie economiche, di microeconomia per essere precisi. È leggermente datato quindi magari potete anche leggere qualcosa di piú recente, ma per iniziare a masticare un pochino di neuroeconomia non é niente male, secondo me.

Review: The Bookbinder's Guide to Love

I had high expectations, but I would say I was rather disappointed by this story in which two people with a weighty past go from hating each other to a mostly unexplained insta-love. I didn't even get attached to the friends of Sera and probably the next protagonists, so I would say that this series, for me, ends here.

Avevo delle alte aspettative, ma direi che sono rimasta piuttosto delusa da questa storiellina in cui due persone con un pesante passato passano dall'odiarsi ad un insta-love per la maggior parte inspiegabile. Non mi sono nemmeno affezionata alle amiche di Sera e possibili prossime protagoniste, quindi direi che questa serie, per me finisce qui.

Review: Lessons

Lessons by Ian McEwan

I have read several of McEwan's books, and in my opinion he is on a downward parabola. It's also to be said that I haven't read his early books, basically the ones in the last 10 years, and for me they have been getting worse. This last one then is written in such a long-winded and boring way that more than once I despaired of being able to finish it. Clearly I am not a literary scholar let alone a literary critic, but since I received the ARC for this book I can take it upon myself to say that I will not miss it and that maybe it may even be time for me to take a break from this author.

Ho letto parecchi libri di McEwan e secondo me é in una parabola discendente. C'é anche da dire che non ho letto i suoi libri iniziali, fondamentalmente quelli degli ultimi 10 anni e per me sono andati peggiorando. Quest'ultimo poi é scritto in modo talmente prolisso e noioso che piú di una volta ho disperato di riuscire a finirlo. Chiaramente io non sono una letterata e tantomeno un critica letteraria, ma siccome ho ricevuto l'ARC di questo libro posso prendermi la responsabilitá di dire che non mi mancherá e che magari sará anche arrivato il momento che io mi prenda una pausa da questo autore.

There are no simple words to explain the parts of this super huge book that I read, but it's worthy, and now I'm going to download the complete 1400 pages and I will happily jump from one part to another as I used to do with the DSM-IVTR. No reason to buy the 5th as far as I'm concerned, as I have Burton now :)

Non ci sono parole semplici per spiegare gli estratti che ho letto dal gigantesco libro di Burton, ma ne valgono la pena, quindi ora mi "scenderó" il trattato completo saltando da una parte all'altra come facevo quando avevo tra le mani il DSM-IVTR. Lo so che é uscito il quinto, ma non ho ragione di commprarlo ora che ho il Burton ;)

This book is fast paced and I had problems to put it down and keep on living and I have no idea how they could make a movie out of it, as most of the action is inside the characters' heads, only disappointing thing is the end in my opinion. Not a thriller, not your regular novel but mostly a book worth reading.

Libro intenso e veloce che ho avuto problemi a smettere per continuare a vivere, inoltre mi lascia piuttosto stupita il fatto che abbiano potuto trarne un film, quando la maggior parte delle cose avviene nella testa dei personaggi. Purtroppo sono rimasta delusa, un pochino, dal finale; quindi riassumendo abbiamo un libro che non é il solito romanzo ma non é nemmeno il solito thriller, peró va comunque letto.

It seems to me that in all this effort to write contemporary romances with STEM topics, we have lost sight of the fact that plot remains a fundamental point for any book that is not an essay or is not written by a Nobel laureate in literature. The second fundamental point then with regard to romance books is of course the drama that results from misunderstanding of any genre. In both cases, this book fails rather miserably in my opinion, because the plot is rather flimsy and the drama comes from an inexplicable decision made by both characters not to talk to each other, period. That said it goes without saying that I did not like the book and I do not think I will read any more by this author.

Mi sembra che in tutto questo sforzo per scrivere dei contemporary romance con degli argomenti STEM, si sia perso di vista il fatto che la trama resta un punto fondamentale per ogni libro che non sia un saggio o non sia scritto da un premio nobel per la letteratura. IL secondo punto fondamentale poi per quanto riguarda i libri d'amore é ovviamente il dramma che deriva da un fraintendimento di qualsiasi genere. In entrambi i casi questo libro fallisce piuttosto miseramente secondo me, perché la trama é piuttosto raffazzonata e il dramma deriva da una decisione inspiegabile presa da entrambi i personaggi di non parlarsi, punto. Detto questo viene da sé che il libro non mi é piaciuto e non credo ne leggeró altri di questa autrice.

This second book, as much as it could be considered a link between the first and the third which will be set in the realm of Faerie, is definitely a valid novel in itself that, personally, I enjoyed very much. First of all, the relationship between Wendell and Emily is enriched with nuance and detail, moreover, the secondary characters are up to the main ones, and the adventures in which all the players incur are well written and hard to stop reading. So I would say a success on all fronts.

Questo secondo libro, per quanto potrebbe essere considerato un collegamento tra il primo ed il terzo che sará ambientato nel regno di Faerie, é sicuramente un valido romanzo in se stesso che, personalmente, mi é piaciuto molto. Inanzitutto il rapporto tra Wendell ed Emily si arricchisce di sfumature e particolari, inoltre i personaggi secondari sono all'altezza di quelli principali e le avventure in cui incorrono tutti i protagonisti sono ben scritte e difficili da smettere di leggere. Direi quindi un successo su tutti i fronti.

Long excursus trough the philosophy of science and the precursor of Neuroeconomics, such as Neurobiology for example. There is also the first explanation of Nash's game theory that I maybe understood, that is to say that the book is very well written, but sometimes can be a little bit boring.

Lungo viaggio attraverso la filosofia della scienza ed i precursori della Neuroeconomia, come per esempio la neurobiologia. Inoltre in questo libro c'é anche la prima spiegazione della teoria dei giochi di Nash che forse ho capito, tanto per dire quanto possa essere ben scritto il libro, che peró potrebbe anche risultare un po' noioso.

I found this delicious volume hidden away in a bookstore and I was in awe because of the fonts, the pages and most of all the pictures. A wonderful travel trough france where the words of the author, even if ripetitive I have to say, shows you a world that's not there anymore.

Ho trovato questo delizioso volume nascosto in una libreria e me ne sono innamorata subito per tanti motivi: il carattere utilizzato, la spaziatura, i margini e soprattutto le foto. Un fantastico viaggio attraverso una Francia che non c'é piú accompagnati dalle parole di una grande autrice, vale proprio la pena.
