Marvels and Misfits (Trixie Towers #1) by Scarlett Dawn - recensione di Amyra

Trama:
Death this way comes to souls who break Fae law. So it is written. So carved in blood. Mighty are the Fae who watch us all.

I’m screwed. Royally screwed. Of all the ways to mess up, I picked a real gem this time—of the hot shifter sort. Especially because I’m the crowned elven princess.

A forbidden soul mating with the cruel King Athon was not why I attended the royal summit of magical races. Our kinds do not mix, as is written in death-blood. And I’ll be damned before I let some arrogant alpha tell me what to do, and for once I’m not talking about my father.

Now, I’m on the quest of a lifetime.
My crew of accomplices—sworn enemies. Including King Athon and my father. Our mission—retrieve ancient artifacts lost forever. Good luck there.

And if we fail?
No worries. The giants will crush the realm.

Between all the secrets and lies, my name is Trixie Towers; and that’s the only truth that won’t get me dead.

Recensione:

Absolutely loved it!
I've read all of Mrs. Dawn books and she delivers every. damn. time.
I adored Trixie sass and how she interacts with the Royals. As for her mate... well... let's just say that enemy to lovers is one of my favorite tropes and I just hope Scarlett will not kill him off, because she is famous for killing mates in practically all her books. I can't wait for the next book, because we are still at the enemy who barely tolerates each other stage. I want to see the arrogant shifter king falling! Go Trixie!

Sigil by Addison Cain - recensione di Amyra

I received an ARC of the extended version from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I read Sigil for the first time a year ago (it was a 3 stars review), found I liked this version better.
It's very dark, as all Addison's books are. There's rape and dubious consent. I felt for Quinn, I was heartbroken. She thinks of herself as a monster, but she's only a traumatized child growing up as a very unique, really broken woman constantly on the run.
I still don't know how to accept her obvious relationship/relationships in the future. She hates everyone, an me with her. The emperor and his brothers have a lot of groveling to do.
It's really well written, but I still prefer her Alpha series.
3.5/4 stars

Quinn cannot escape Pax.
After a century spent in hiding, the Irdesi Emperor has finally cornered her—and as their species’ only female, Sovereign and his brothers are ravenous to claim her as their bride. They wish to take, to please... but above all, they wish to control.
They outnumber her, they are stronger, and they are relentless.
But the males don’t know Pax Station like she does. They don't know how far Quinn will go in her war against the unwanted attentions of old enemies. Enemies who claim to love her. Enemies who take without asking.
Enemies who terrify and confuse, threaten and adore.
And she has no way out.

QUEEN OF GODS by Scarlett Dawn - recensione di Amyra

I received this ARC from one of the authors in exchange for an honest review.
I previously read what it seems was the first draft of this story in the Magic and Alphas anthology, so I was able to pinpoint all the ways they changed it and... boy, did it go another way.
Starting with the first chapter, Gwyn's storyline is less bloodthirsty... but I still think all the characters there are assholes. The authors need to go a long way to redeem them.
Kimber's storyline was new and perfect. It adds sweetness to the whole. I really like her and her males (I have my suspicious BUT Scarlett said no spoilers).
I fear for all the true mates/soul mates out there. We all know how Scarlett feels about them (spoiler, she hates them. Usually kills them or made them forget and they. leave. us.)
I have my favourites and pray they will be ok in the next book.
Cannot wait for April.
4 stars

Stolen by Addison Cain - Recensione di Amyra

He stole her off the streets in broad daylight—the first Omega discovered in Bernard Dome in generations. He took her with violence while none intervened. He broke her, swearing he’d put her back together.

Brenya Perin was ordered to submit.

Bernard Dome is the jewel of Europe, a bastion of art and culture, pleasure and decadence. But life in the city depends on the occupation chosen for you at birth. There is no subversion, no question of who rules. There is no freedom.

Peace has a price, a price the Commodore of Bernard Dome is willing to pay… so long as the Omega remains his.

***
Shepherd’s influence is on the rise. His machinations are subtle, his hands full tending to his recovering mate. Her safety is his priority, and something he’s willing to risk war to assure. Bernard Dome has what he wants, and they will all be dammed if they deny him.

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
As with the previous series, this book is dark, twisted and addictive. It doesn't recount a romance but an obsession.
There's rape, abuse, dubious consent and other sensitive topics. Be warned, it's not for the weak. But it's a page turner, and I read it all in one sleepless night (as in, I was unable to put it down and look, it's dawn!).
What I loved: aside the outstanding writing, I was ecstatic to see again previous characters Claire, Shepherd and Jules (I thought he was dead OMG!!!!)
Shepherd is going to have to explain some things to Claire wich I just know will not make her happy. Claire is weaning herself from drugs and confronting her PTSD, her rape and the loss of her unborn child. Shepherd is Shepherd. He's plotting and being his bloodthirsty self.
And Jules... OMG Jules. I did NOT see that plot twist coming. He's going to suffer, Brenya's going to suffer, WE WILL ALL suffer before the end. As always. And we will love it.

Trigger by Scarlett Dawn, recensione di Amyra

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review. I also bought it on release day.
It was one of those story that I cannot review straight away... I had to wait for about a week before writing it.
Did I like it? Yeah. But I like all books by Scarlett Dawn. I'm a hard core fan like that.
This one has a different feeling, though. It's the first in a series but can be read as a stand alone. The next one has different main characters.
I like Poppy so much... she doesn't want an arranged marriage and she's willing to fight on her father's worst enemy's army in order to avoid that. She's a bad ass, and so brilliant. She has a wild one night (one hour?) stand... only to discover that she's been with her father' said worst enemy, Mr. King. Who is a shifter. And may want a bit more that a one night stand. It has a slight Romeo and Juliet vibe.
This book is uncomplicated and can be read by everyone. But I personally want more conflict in mine. So it's a 4 stars and not a 5.

Obsidian Music (Lion Security, #3) by Scarlett Dawn RECENSIONE DI AMYRA

I received this eBook from the author in exchange for an honest review; I also bought it from Amazon in support of said author.
The book start where Obsidian Mask ended. Beth is kidnapped. Beth is pregnant with triplets. Not a good combo.
This book is filled with action and drama. We see Beth suffer, how she reacts to abuse and how she change in order to protect her unborn sons.
Beth is now hardened, and the preacher's daughter, in my opinion, died. She is now the perfect mate to the head of the Russian's Mafia. She's not scared of violence and death anymore and think revenge is her due.
There's no room to breath in this book, there's attempt after attempted at Beth's and her new family's life, and as a consequence there's really no room to explore her relationship whit Daniil. I missed that.
I adore all secondary characters (there's a new romance that I absolutely didn't see in the previous books) and was shocked by one's betrayal.
It's a good book, but is definitely darker. I was lost in all the senseless violence and unable to follow the plot. I missed sweet Daniil and all of the characters' ruckus. I certainly prefer the previous two installments.
My vote: 3.5 stars

Blurb:
The bestselling conclusion to the Lion Security series is here!

Beth and Daniil's passionate love story reaches its ultimate struggle when Beth is kidnapped by Daniil's enemies. Dark and dangerous killers hold her captive, but the Russian mafia will stop at nothing for her return. With the whole world searching for the mafia boss' lover, her safety is paramount, and it's only a matter of time before she is found.
But will it be too late?
Can Beth return whole from her traumatic fight for survival?
Or will she be irreversibly damaged?

RECENSIONI DI AMYRA

Moon Mark ARC Read & Review

Title: Moon Mark (Mark #2)
Author: Scarlett Dawn
Release date: 6/20/16
Amazon: http://amzn.to/1tCj22O
Blurb:
Subject Name: Madeline Faire
Race: Human
Sex: Female
Age: 22
Designation: Prisoner
Temperament: Curious

When natural disaster strikes Joyal, Madeline is tossed from her planet into the hands of the Kireg. Madeline has always feared the Kireg, an alien who can bend—or snap—a mind with only a thought. What she found on their home planet is even more frightening. Civil unrest has exploded and enemies are everywhere. But the one thing she never expected to find was her mate, the rebellion leader who started the war.

I received this ARC from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
Let me start saying that I absolutely adored the first book (or serial, whatever) of this series, Cold MArk. Braita was my all-time fav heroine.
Madaleine is more a lover than a warrior. She's an engineer, she knows how to made bombs, but she's a pacifist.
She didn't like Geo at first and was forced to mate with him in humiliating circumstances. And when I say mate... I'm meaning in a sexual way. So. No, I didn't like it. This is my hard limit, sorry. Too much like rape in my vocabulary.
Yes, at the end Geo is fabulous and they are a good couple, but I simply can't forget how they started it.
My vote: 2.5 stars
Sigh. I had so much hope in this one.... let's wish for more in the next installment.

Title: Game Master (Skeleton Key)
Author: Scarlett Dawn
Release day: 6/18/16
Amazon: http://amzn.to/1sMpXpD
Blurb:
Arizona Creed lost her assassin father, and her whole world changed.
Literally.
With one magical skeleton key, Arizona lands in another realm.

Forget Earth. Terlant is the place to be. And Lucifer wants her there, the dashing man with no last name and more secrets than even she has. But love isn’t always enough. Arizona must find purpose in her new life.

The Royal Guard could give Lucifer and Arizona what they desire.
They only need to pass two tests to win the Game and enter the elite Guard.
But is her real test to open her heart to true love?
And will she win her wings to fly into his arms?

I received this ARC from the Author in exchange for an honest review.
This is a stand-alone short story that I really enjoyed. An assin's dauther, in the aftermath of her father's murder, found a skeleton key and was magically catapulted in another realm.
She's not a wilting flower. Here she found her true love (but was able to admit it only after 3 years, poor baby) and a career worthy of her father's teachings.
It's absolutely stunning the connection the main characters have, and the majority of it in a non-sexual way. They are true soul mates, almost able to read the mind. As I said, stunning.
As always with short story that I enjoy, my main complain is the lack of a full-lenght book for this story. Sigh.
On a side note, it was really a "Aha!" moment when I understand the title.
My vote: 3 stars

Blood Tree Silver Edition by Scarlett Dawn - recensione di Amyra

I received this ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.
Blood Tree: silver edition is a box set who contains Kenna's story (Blood Tree: part one), Juliet's story (Blood Tree: part two) plus a bonus story, Susan's.

Kenna:
It's a nice story. Kenna discovered at thirteen that she's an Elv. But what kind? She can enter the light elves' realm but she has the dark elves' black hair. For her to be a light one, like her mother, she just need to not have sex before she's twenty, to not kill anyone, even accidentally, and to not enter through a dark wooden door. Easy peasy. Not.
The ending is a bit week, and this ruined a bit the novella, but as I have said before, endings are not this author's stronger suit.
My vote: 3 stars

Juliet:
The first part was nice but nothing more, so I wasn't expecting much.
It was so much better!
The more mature prospective of Juliet was entrancing. It never occurred to me to consider who was Kenna's dad. And so we learn more about the original dark elf. I loved him!
Even the ending, Mrs Dawn's Achille's heel, was nice and just the right thing. I was so sad about the novella's brevity!
I'm just hoping there will be more. More Juliet, more Kenna! Please!
My vote: 4 stars

Susan:
It's true, it's a bonus story and nothing more, but I was expecting a minimum of quality, criminy.
After Juliet's story, my expectations were set high, but with this one they crushed to nothing.
Susan's story is... insipid. Hollow. Senseless.
Better to have stop reading at Juliet's, trust me.
My vote: 2 stars.

Box set vote: 3 stars

RISE (Cold Mark, #4) by Scarlett Dawn, recensione di Amyra.

I received this ebook directly from the author in exchange for an honest review.
I love this serial but not serial in generis. Every chapter is always too short for me. And, at the end, this start a sort of rage-dissapointment induced haze for me.
In this chapter, Baita finally chose to act like a grown up and show a modicum of intellect. I love, as always, all my Vaqs and the Jax/Stiller couple. I think the characters are really perfect. But... I feel there is too much to say to this serial to end in only a chapter. I'm a bit anxious. Let's pray that Ms Scarlett doesn't muck up the ending, which is not her strong suit.
