The Golden House by Salman Rushdie

By far one of the best novel that Rushdie wrote recently and one of the best stories I read this year, comparable only to 4321 by Paul Auster. The epic story of the Golden family told by a neighbor, director and screenplay writer wannabee, that since from the start gets involved in this Indian's family affairs, very obscure affairs: love, death and everything in between for the tale of the rise and the fall of a legendary man who decided to call himself Nero.

Uno dei migliori romanzi di Rushdie e sicuramente una delle storie migliori lette ultimamente, paragonabile soltanto al 4321 di Paul Auster. L'epica storia della famiglia Golden, immigrata dall'India, raccontata dal loro vicino di casa, scrittore di copioni e regista in erba, che perde da subito la sua imparzialitá, per venire condotto sempre piú a fondo nelle drammatiche vicende familiari, oscure e perverse. L'amore, la morte e tutto quello che sta nel mezzo per raccontare l'ascesa e la caduta di un uomo che aveva scelto di chiamarsi Nerone.

Ana and Deacon are a good couple, but in a way there was way too much drama in this book, I used to love the sectors more, but now all the problems involved with the Rios family are dragging the books a little bit on the depressive side, or this seem to me.

Ana e Deacon sono una buona coppia, ma in qualche modo in tutto il libro e anche nel precedente, c'é un po' troppo dramma, e non era cosí nei precedenti libri sui settori, sembra quasi che tutto quello che ha a che fare con la famiglia Rios sia deprimente, o almeno cosí sembra a me.

Secrets in Death by J.D. Robb

I am seriously wondering, after all these years, how can Nora Roberts write almost every time a very good book involving Roarke and Eve Dallas, every single time! I am a serial reader and I consider myself a connoisseur of series fo every different type, but this is the only one and one the longest, that I'm always looking forward to!

Ogni singola volta mi chiedo come sia possibile che nonostante i 44 libri precedenti, piú uno svariato numero di storie brevi, Nora Roberts riesca sempre a tirare fuori dal cappello un'altra bella storia di Eve e Roarke. Di serie ne leggo tante e ne conosco altrettante, ma questa é una delle poche (ed anche una delle piú lunghe) di cui aspetto ogni nuova uscita con trepidazione!

This book is far too complicated for me to review as I'm not a Kierkegard expert or a Philosopher, but what I got was illuminating. Second part, was also, in a way, a sort of clarification for me.

Questo libro é assolutamente troppo complicato per me da recensire, sia perché non sono un'esperta di Kierkegaard, sia perché non ho studiato filosofia, peró c'é da dire che quel poco che ho capito é stato illuminante. Inoltre anche la seconda parte del libro é stata, per quanto strano, chiarificatrice.

The story of meditation and mindfulness told by expert and leading professor who wants to show you (trough research and scientific datas) what is really true about all this recent mindfulness hype. What is important to understand is that this book is about the concept of meditation, it doesn't give the reader tips and tricks to learn to meditate, but in the end you will have more reason to learn than before.

La storia della meditazione e della mindfulness raccontata da veri esperti, che vogliono dimostrare attraverso ricerche e dati scientifici, cosa sia emerso veramente dagli ultimi anni di ricerche applicate alla meditazione e cosa invece sia da imputare alla "follia per la mindfulness" che negli ultimi anni ha preso fortemente piede. Fondamentale é capire che questo non é uno dei soliti libri per imparare a meditare, non ci sono né schemi né trucchi, ma una volta letto la spinta alla meditazione sará basata su una comprensione migliore dell'argomento.

Dinner at the Center of the Earth by Nathan Englander

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Englander is back to the novel format after last book was another anthology of short stories. This time his humor turned mostly caustic and it really burned. The everlasting war between Palestine and Israel, mighty figure mixed with real men and impossible solutions. A very nice reading.

Englander torna al romanzo, d'altronde ormai sembra alternarli ai volumi di racconti. Stavolta il suo senso dell'umorismo é caustico e brucia parecchio. La guerra infinita tra Israele e la Palestina, dove figure mitiche si sovrappongono a uomini realmente esistiti alla ricerca di soluzioni impossibili. Bel libro.

Marx, Freud, Einstein: Heroes of the Mind by Corinne Maier

Comics to depict the lives of famous persone were already made, but this one is absolutely one of the funniest and even really clear in its explanations.

Fumetti per raccontare la vita degli uomini illustri ce ne sono giá stati parecchi in passato, ma questo é, secondo me, uno dei migliori perché divertente, ma anche molto chiaro nelle sue spiegazioni.

I liked this book for many reason, but mostly because the recipes are clear, well explained and it also gave me options if I don't want them to be completely vegetarian!

Questo libro mi é piaciuto per molti motivi, ma fondamentalmente perché le ricette sono spiegate bene, utilizza ingredienti "normali" e soprattutto fornisce un'alternativa al lettore che preferisce inserire anche proteine animali!

I have never heard the author's podcast, but I could start because I found the suggestions he gave in the first part of the book, and mainly the writing propmt of the second part very interesting, even if I'm not a writer myself.

Non ho mai ascoltato il podcast di questo autore, ma potrei sempre iniziare perché, sia i suggerimenti della prima parte del libro, che le frasi iniziali per esercitarsi a scrivere della seconda parte, mi sembrano ben fatti ed interessanti, nonostante io non sia uno scrittore.
