Absolutely technical, but not in the biology way, mostly in the way it discusses how we decide what to eat, and why, and how smells and noises have a strong impact on our choices. After my recent studies on Neuromarketing, I was really happy that I came across this essay!
Molto tecnico, ma non perché si metta a spiegare la biologia della digestione, quanto piuttosto perché esamina attentamente quali sono gli stimoli esterni che possono essere utilizzati per influenzare quello che scegliamo di mangiare. Considerato che recentemente avevo studiato un pochino di Neuromarketing, sono stata contenta di essermi imbattuta, quasi per caso, in questo saggio.

OHHHHH I have a new series with a strong heroine and now I know that 19 more books are waiting for me before the end - because this series ended a couple of weeks ago. I couldn't have asked for more two days before my holidays....
Meraviglioso, ho scoperto questa nuova serie con un'eroina tostissima e ora vivo sapendo che ci sono altri 19 libri prima della fine, anche perché questa é una serie finita due settimane fa :) non avrei potuto chiedere di meglio a due giorni dalle ferie....

Non posso dire niente che non sia stato già detto su IJ, lo ami, lo odi e tutto quello che sta nel mezzo. Personalmente lo ritengo un libro ostico e trascinante: facevo fatica a leggerlo (se vedo un altra nota mi sento male) e facevo altrettanta fatica a lasciarlo. E' un mondo che ti assorbe, una volta che lo capisci tanto da riuscire a muoverti, quello di Hal e Don e sicuramente con il senno di poi, non è che mi stupisce così tanto che DFW si sia suicidato; a volte più che IJ sembrava di leggere il DSM IV-TR in particolare il capitolo sulle dipendenze, ma ci sono delle parti, quella che mi ricordo meglio è il dialogo di Hal con Orin sul momento perfetto, quello in cui come giocatore sai che non sbaglierai, quello in cui tutto congiura perchè tu abbia successo, che ancora mi fanno venire i brividi solo a ripensarci.Felice di averlo letto e felice di averlo finito, magari la prossima volta lo rileggo in italiano però.

It has been interesting, and sometimes boring, but I have to say that I learned a lot, even if this way of writing about history handling each main topic and not in chronological order didn't work this time for me. When I read SPQR it was easier because I already knew a lot of the story so the scaffolding was there, but this time it was not enough and from times to times information disappeared really fast.
È stato un libro interessante, anche se a tratti noioso, ma stavolta, il modo di scrivere la storia partendo dagli argomenti principali senza seguire una linea cronologica per me non ha funzionato tanto perché, a differenza di SPQR dove la storia era nota e quindi lo scaffolding presente, spesso e volentieri mi perdevo le informazioni tra i capitoli perché non sapevo dove posizionarle nella mia mente....

THE FIRST LAW SERIES by Joe Abercrombie

A long, far too long, book which is only a premise to something that, I hope, will be happening in the next 2 books of this trilogy. I was not completely disappointed only because I like some characters a lot and I'm looking forward to their adventures, but still....
Un libro veramente troppo lungo che, alla fine, non é che un'infinita premessa per qualcosa che si spera accada nei prossimi due volumi della trilogia. Continuo a leggere fondamentalmente perché alcuni dei personaggi mi piacciono molto e voglio vedere come va a finire, ciononostante.....

Better than the first one, but I thought this one also was far too long, and the third one is almost 700 pages, but ok, at last is the last one, and that will bring all the unsolved questions to an end I hope. Strangest thing about these books, is the way the author talks about things that happened before the time this book is set, as there were some sort of prequels, but I haven't found them yet....
Meglio del primo, di poco, ma anche questo veramente troppo lungo, e la cosa peggiora considerato che il terzo arriva a 700 pagine, ma almeno é l'ultimo e spero che concluda tutte le fila rimaste aperte fino ad ora. La cosa piú strana di questi libri comunque, per me sta nel fatto che l'autore cita continuamente cose avvenute nel passato, come se ci fosse una serie di prequel a questa trilogia, ma io non li ho trovati da nessuna parte.....

I'm seriously disappointed with the author about the way he decided to finish this trilogy, that is more than 1500 pages long; once I finished that, I realized that all this trouble was totally for nothing, or to be precise, to have the same ending of "The strand" by Stephen King, that was by far a better book. I will never understand why people love Abercrombie's books so much, when for me are just a never ending problem.
Sono veramente delusa dal modo in cui l'autore ha deciso di finire questa trilogia, che é lunga piú di 1500 pagine; dopo tutta questa fatica ho un libro che finisce come "L'ombra dello scorpione" di Stephen King ed é decisamente molto piú brutto....La ragione per cui tanta gente ama Abercrombie non mi sará mai chiara, questo ormai é per me definitivo.

This was a real great conclusion for one of the best recent urban fantasy trilogy I read in the recent years, and I'm considering also all the other series written by Ilona Andrews so far.
Connor and Nevada are a really great great couple and the way the interact between themselves and with the other member of the crazy family of Nevada or friends or military (mostly friends of Mad Rogan) are the perfect example of how the dialogues works in books. The general plot is coming to an end but there is still a lot of space for some other books, maybe involving Nevada's sisters and I really hope the publisher would listen to all us readers!
Veramente un'ottima conclusione per una delle migliori trilogie urban fantasy che sono state pubblicate in anni recenti, e considero anche le altre serie di Ilona Andrews (di cui ho letto l'opera omnia). Connor e Nevada sono una coppia meravigliosa e le modalitá di interazione tra loro e con il resto dei personaggi piú o meno secondari, quando non comprimari, sono, secondo me, l'esempio perfetto di come e perché funzionano i dialoghi nei libri. Anche la trama globale é quasi arrivata ad una fine, ma c'é molto molto spazio per proseguire e vorrei proprio che gli autori ricevessero un'offerta in modo da proseguire la serie, cosa che noi lettori affezionati chiediamo a gran voce.

I have almost forgotten, in my binge reading Gaiman, how much I loved Neverwhere; so when I found out this short story on Amazon featuring the Marquis of Carabas, I knew that this was going to be a lovely day :)
Mi ero quasi scordata, in questo periodo di lettura dell'opera omnia di Gaiman, quanto mi fosse piaciuto Nessundove; quindi quando ho scoperto questa breve storia che aveva come protagonista il Marchese di Carabas, ho capito che sarebbe stata una bella giornata :)

The last collection of short stories came to an end and I must admit I didn't like them so much as the previous. The only exception are "The sleeper and the spindle" and the Shadow's story, but that one I already read. Let's wait for something new even if this year we already got a collection of essays and a book about Norwegian Mythology.
Anche questa collezione di racconti é arrivata alla fine, ma devo dire che con un paio di eccezioni non é stata bella come le altre. Ora mi tocca aspettare per qualcosa di nuovo ma credo per quest'anno, dopo una raccolta di saggi ed un romanzo sulla mitologia nordica mi dovrò mettere ad aspettare per un po'....

Altre storie nella mia abbuffata di "tutto quello che ha scritto Gaiman fino ad ora". Credo di aver sviluppato una sorta di dipendenza, ma non me ne preoccupo perché ho ancora da leggere altri due libri di storie e un romanzo :)
