This book starts slowly, maybe to help us reacquaint with Dan Torrance, which is no more a child who wanders in the halls of the Overlook Hotel (the tricycle in the corridors is an invention of Kubrick and King hates that movie) but a man with big problems. Dick Halloran makes an occasional appearance as well as mom Wendy. The whole story has to do with Dan who knows Abra, whose shining is bigger than any other, but he is not the only one who met her, because even a group of vampires that inhale the steam of the special kids like her (and like Dan was once)and want to torture and kill her to eat her power. In broad terms this is the plot, the Master processes it as only he can do and allows us to know another great cast of characters. This sequel to The Shining is as good as its prequel and I would not mind re-encounter Dan Torrance in another 20 years!
Questo libro parte piano, anche per farci fare di nuovo la conoscenza di Dan Torrance, che non é piú un bambino che si aggira per i corridoi dell'Overlook Hotel (la faccenda del triciclo é un'invenzione di Kubrick e King odia quel film), ma un uomo con dei grossi problemi. Dick Halloran fa una sporadica comparsa come anche mamma Wendy. Tutta la vicenda ha a che fare con Dan che conosce Abra, il cui shining supera qualsiasi altro, ma non é l'unico che la conosce, perché anche un gruppo di vampiri di steam la "conosce" e la vuole torturare ed uccidere per nutrirsene. A grandi linee questa é la trama, il maestro la elabora come solo lui sa fare e ci permette di conoscere un altro grande cast di personaggi. Questo seguito di Shining é bello come il suo prequel e non mi dispiacerebbe reincontrare Dan Torrance tra altri 20 annni!
