Marta Oulie: A Novel of Betrayal by Sigrid UndsetMy rating: 3 of 5 stars
Too cynical and disenchanted to look like Emma Bovary or even Effie Briest, this woman whose diary we read and that begins with the famous words "I have been unfaithful to my husband" I didn't really made appreciate. The book is beautiful, mind you, I only had a few problems to empathize with the main character, she is looking for something that, being a woman at the beginning of the last century (or even this if you want) and the double standards prevailing at the moment, she is prevented from finding. But then I'm not really sure that she knew what to look for, as I had the feeling of a more generic horror vacui.
Troppo cinica e disincantata per assomigliare ad Emma Bovary o anche ad Effie Briest, questa donna di cui leggiamo il diario che inizia con la fatidica frase "sono stata infedele a mio marito" nonmi ha poi fatto impazzire. Il libro é bellissimo, sia chiaro, ho solo avuto qualche problema ad empatizzare con il personaggio principale, alla ricerca di qualcosa che sia l'essere donna agli inizi del secolo scorso (o anche di questo se vogliamo) sia la doppia morale imperante, alla quale comunque non si piega in finale, gli viene impedito di trovare. Ma io non sono poi convinta che lei sapesse cosa cercare, ho come avuto la sensazione di un piú generico horror vacui.
