There is something new in this book, first of all is an Historical paranormal romance, second there are no vampires (Yuppy!!) Anyway the heroine had to marry the rich freak, with whom will eventually fall in love, but he has to many secret so she has to save him from himself most of all. This is the first of a series, let's wait for the next ones.

In questo libro qualcosa di nuovo c'è: prima di tutto è un paranormal romance ambientato nell'epoca regency e poi non ci sono vampiri (era ora!!!). L'eroina deve sposare, costretta, il ricco e strano conte che nasconde il suo volto dietro una maschera, e di cui poi alla fine s'innamorerà, ma lui nasconde molti segreti e lei sarà costretta ad utilizzare i suoi poteri per salvarlo, fondamentalmente da se stesso.

E' il primo libro di una serie, staremo a vedere i prossimi.

Urban Ecological Design: A Process for Regenerative Places by Danilo Palazzo

Very interesting for the parts about the development of the project from the design to the building, even if some of the laws and the computer program they used are not known to me, but most of all what was important for me was the assumption that urban ecological design recognizes that people interact with other people and other species and so the city is a human ecosystem, that can be defined as the benefits they receive from nature and can be enhanced.

It reminded me the "cradle to cradle" philosophy(http://www.mcdonough.com/cradle_to_cr...).

Ho trovato molto interessante la parte dello sviluppo del progetto dal design alla costruzione, anche se molte delle leggi che sottostavano e i programmi di computer usati mi erano assolutamente sconosciuti, ma sicuramente la parte più importante era l'assunto alla base dell'urban ecological design che riconosce come le città siano degli ecosistemi umani che possono essere essere anche definiti come i benefici che ricevono dalla natura e che possono essere quindi migliorati. Mi ha ricordato la filosofia cradle to cradle (http://www.mcdonough.com/cradle_to_cr...).

It's the second of a series, but as any good regency romance can be read as a stand alone novel. Olivia is not a strong girl, she had malaria and she thinks the will ever remain a spinster, but Max fall in love with her and trough many difficulties and misunderstanding they eventually live happily forever and ever. For the lovers of regency romance.

Questa storia è la seconda di una serie, ma come tutti i libri d'amore può essere benissimo letto da solo. Olivia non è una ragazza forte, la malaria ha minato il suo corpo e lei si è già rassegnata a vivere da zitella, ma alla fine di un ballo Max la vede e se ne innamora e alla fine l'amore trionferà. Per le amanti del genere Regency.

Catch Me by Lisa Gardner

I liked this book but I'm so sorry that I missed the five before! When i received the ARC from Netgalley I didn't know it was the 6th....Anyway this is a thriller that can be read as a stand alone novel, it's just the life of the Detective D.D. Warren and the characters involved that were in the previous books.

The plot is very intriguing and I would probably read other books from Lisa Gardner that was a great novelty in my bookshelves!

Mi è piaciuto questo libro, peccato non aver saputo subito che era il sesto di una serie. Comunque è un giallo che può essere considerato autoconclusivo, sono solo alcuni dei personaggi principali quelli che erano anche nei libri precedenti. La trama è particolare e molto coinvolgenti, l'autrice scrive bene e questo mi fa pensare che non sarà l'ultima volta che la leggo...

A Brief History of Thought: A Philosophical Guide to Living by Luc Ferry

I really loved this book even if it can be considered a short compendium. The author let us know what he thinks about most of the philosophical thoughts he describes, but he does it not in a dogmatic way so it's quite interesting starting from his criticism to move on.

I particularly appreciated the comparison between stoicism and Tibetan Buddhism.

Questo breve compendio dei pensieri filosofici mi è piaciuto parecchio, intanto perchè era ben scritto e poi perchè l'autore, partendo dalle critiche o dagli apprezzamenti personali nei confronti di alcune correnti di pensiero, invece che in modo dogmatico utilizzava punti di forza e punti deboli per critiche ulteriori. Una delle cose che più mi è piaciuta poi, è stato il paragone tra lo stoicismo e il buddismo tibetano.

Certe volte le storie d'amore sono tutte uguali, s'incontrano, s'innamorano (senza avere niente in comune) e poi stanno assieme per sempre; in questo caso l'unica differenza era che LUI era mezzo uomo e mezzo angelo e conosceva LEI perchè doveva esaudire il suo desiderio di fare l'amore con qualcuno di sexy quella notte. In effetti doveva essere un lavoro molto duro considerato che poi si è licenziato...

Considerare l'idea di pianificare la propria vita come se fosse il proprio lavoro non è proprio un'idea particolarmente innovativa, ma in questo caso l'autore è piuttosto chiaro e offre suggerimenti e trucchi per affrontare in modo efficace ed efficiente tutte le tappe di sviluppo del "progetto vita".

This was a pretty difficult book for me for many reason, but I think the most important was my absolute ignorance about the gender debates about modernism and the patriarchal poetry. Anyway some of the stuff I got was interesting, specially the part about the social contradictions and the male poets that I knew and I read.

Questo per me è stato un libro abbastanza complesso da seguire, fondamentalmente perchè non ero al corrente dei vari dibattiti sulle differenze di genere nei poeti considerati modernisti, nè di quali o quanti fra essi fossero considerati "patriarcali". A parte questo, alcune delle nozioni come le contraddizioni sociali o i poeti "maschili" erano piuttosto interessanti.

TAYLOR KEATING "FAIR GAME" [GUARDIAN#3]

Terzo libro di una serie veramente carina che parte dall'ambientazione di un videogioco, per arrivare alla pandemia sul nostro pianeta da sempre osservato da Fate e Guardiani. Sembra la solita vecchia storia, ed in parte lo è anche, ma River, Hawke e tutti i personaggi che li circondano sono veramente particolarmente azzeccati, IMHO.

It's a long list of essaysts, what they wrote and particulary what they wrote about essays. It's better to use this book, in my opinion, as a consultation book instead that reading it all together because it could be boring.

Lunga lista di saggisti da Montaigne a Sedaris, quello che hanno scritto in generale e in particolare sui saggi. Meglio utilizzare questo libro come volume da consultazione piuttosto che leggerlo tutto di seguito, perchè sulla lunga distanza, secondo me, potrebbe risultare un po' noioso.

I soo loved this one also, if she only would write longer stories it would be perfect. In this new adventure Rachel is taking care of Kit while Vancouver is infested by a reaper that lives with other people's souls. In the meanwhile we find out more stuff about Rachel's life and we met the bad (?) Lucas. Looking forward the 3rd one!

Anche questa storia di Rachel la medium mi è piaciuta molto, se solo l'autrice scrivesse storie più lunghe sarebbe perfetto! In questa nuova avventure la nostra eroina sta insegnando a Kit a vivere nel mondo soprannaturale mentre Vancouver viene infestata da un reaper che vive mangiando le anime degli altri. Mentre "i nostri eroi" cercano un modo per sconfiggerlo, veniamo a conoscenza di una parte del passato di Rachel e conosciamo Lucas, che non è convincente nè come buono nè come cattivo. Spero che la terza storia arrivi presto!

SAMUEL COHEN AND LEE KONSTANTINOU "THE LEGACY OF DAVID FOSTER WALLACE"

Se non fosse stato per Netgalley non avrei mai potuto leggere questa raccolta di articoli, memoriali e interviste fatte da ed a DFW. Come sua grande fans, anche se non ho ancora letto tutto, questa è stata una specie di lettura miracolosa, un po' com'è stato andare al concerto dei Police a Torino dopo 20 anni che si erano sciolti. Purtroppo lui non tornerà più, ma almeno ci ha lasciato le sue opere e le parole dei suoi amici e delle persone che l'hanno conosciuto e che fortunatamente sono state raccolte per i posteri che non hanno avuto l'onore di conoscerlo.

DON DELILLO "COSMOPOLIS"

Cosmopolis: Great DeLillo book, as many of his are, IMHO. This one is about the (maybe) last day of a Newyorker young billionaire as we saw it from both his eyes or from some of the people he met. Crazy strange things happen, even more crazier are the people he met: lovers, bodyguards, artists and driver but while we see all these things developing in front of us is still very difficult not to flow along with the precious words the writer uses to describe this "new Ulysses story".

Grande libro di DeLillo, come molti dei suoi lo sono, secondo me. Questo riguarda un giorno, forse l'ultimo, di un giovane miliardario di New York, visto sia attraverso i suoi occhi, che da quelli di alcune delle persone che incontra. A proposito di persone, la maggior parte sono particolarmente strane, al limite della pazzia, e ancora più folli sono le cose che fanno o che gli capitano, ma mentre leggiamo di questi avvenimenti, ancora più difficile resta non perdersi nel flusso delle parole utilizzate dall'artista per descrivere questa storia del novello Ulysse, sia l'eroe omerico che il personaggio di Joyce.
