La banda Sacco by Andrea Camilleri

La banda SaccoLa banda Sacco by Andrea Camilleri
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

CupCakes a colazione by Nora Roberts

CupCakes a colazioneCupCakes a colazione by Nora Roberts
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

A Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros, John Howe (Translation)

A Philosophy of WalkingA Philosophy of Walking by Frédéric Gros
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Small essay fascinating for people like me addicted to "walk"; through both aesthetic and philosophical contemplation of walking, I became also aware of some personalities such as Nietzsche, Ghandi and Thoreau and the use and consumption that they made these walks. Not that in my case I've created a classic of literature or philosophy, much less free Indians from oppression, but it was nice to know that I´m in good company.

Goddess with a Blade (Rowan Summerwaite #1)

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

I really liked this book, even if the liason between a Hunter and a vampire is not so new (just think about Anita and Jean Claude) but still it was so well written and funny that I´m looking forward to the second installment in this series!

A little bit of confusion, but in the end I was happy for the ending, but now I sooo need the book about Reaver and Harvester....

Sherlock Holmes: Crime Alleys

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

One of the saddest non original stories of Sherlock Holmes I have ever read. Good plot and illustrations, looking forward to read others.

Reading Reconsidered: A Guide to Rigorous Literacy Instruction in the Common Core EraReading Reconsidered: A Guide to Rigorous Literacy Instruction in the Common Core Era by Doug Lemov
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This book was really hard to understand, mostly because I'm not a literature teacher at any level, and I'm not even English mother tongue. Anyway what I understood was really interesting and this book really shows how to improve your teaching skills using books, as it says: "...we’ve looked at the different ways teachers can implement four “Core of the Core” ideas in the classroom. By having students read harder texts, close read rigorously to establish and analyze meaning, read lots of nonfiction, and write in direct response to written works, teachers can go a long way toward ensuring their students’ preparation for and success in college. Still, in and of themselves, those four ideas do not a competent and successful reader make. There are other important and often foundational skills necessary to success in reading.
In this second part of the book, we’ll look at those pieces essential to rigorous and thorough reading instruction. We’ll focus on a combination of fundamentals—things like increasing vocabulary or sharpening expressive reading skills—and the process of developing positive habits and systems to make classrooms more effective and efficient in supporting student success. Fortunately, these essentials also offer deep synergies with the ideas in the first part of the book. " cit.

The African Equation

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Another good book by Yasmina Khadra, this time we don't dwell with Muslims but with African pirates and kidnappers. The story of Kurt doesn't take a long span of time but it's so dense that it seems a bigger book than 300 pages more or less. The complications of a marriage life, the need to help, the delusion of knowing our spouse so well to remain astonish when something incredible happens. All this topics and more in this novel that gives a lot of food for thoughts.

Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles #1) by Ilona Andrews

Clean Sweep (Innkeeper Chronicles #1)Clean Sweep by Ilona Andrews
My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Great first installment in a new series and once again the authors of Kate Daniels did not lose a beat. Dina is the owner of a bed and breakfast a bit special where the guests come from far away and whose preferences, especially culinary, can leave you flabbergasted. All topped off with werewolves, vampires, and a great deal of irony and sarcasm that make it very enjoyable to read. Now I just hope the second volume comes out very soon!

Freddo a luglio

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

Very good book, that makes you do a quick trip to the various possible eventuality that such a plot could open. What would you have done instead of Dane? and in place of the father of the victim? at times disturbing, perhaps because of the cracks that opens the human soul, are still 200 pages worth reading.

Very nice the conclusion of this series that has fascinated me from the beginning, even though my favorite character only at the end had the story she deserved; although I will miss this series, I'm however glad that next year there will be the novel starring the "cursed" met in this book.

Lord of the Swallows: A Malko Linge Novel

My rating: 2 of 5 stars

I read many novels by Gérard de Villiers, whom I think is second only to Ian Fleming considering spying novels; SAS Malko Linge has been in my life since the beginning of my adolescence and gave me many insights about politics, history and sex. This novel anyway was a little bit too slow, not particularly brilliant and mostly boring because the plot was too linear: no double games and no counterespionage to talk of, so I was sad and disappointed, but it's just because as a constant reader I saw the best of Gérard de Villiers (R.I.P.) and it's not this novel.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

It is an interesting book, well written and mostly easy to approach because the tips and suggestion are not so difficult and there are recipes and exercises so it can easily be done. In some cases anyway, also the author suggest to talk to your doctor before changing completely your lifestyle.

Brotherhood in Death (In Death, #42)Brotherhood in Death by J.D. Robb
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

First of all the 3 stars are not because of my all time favorite characters: Eve&Roarke, who are as always a great couple; my doubts are for the story, which is a retelling of many before this one, that involves: students, campus and secret brotherhoods. So I have to say that it was not such a nice plot as the one I'm used with J.D.Robb, but still a book worth reading.

Sweet little novella involving an heroine with amnesia and a hero who doesn't consider himself as one. As always Valerie Bowman was able to depict an entertaining story that leaves you happy than before.

A Decent Ride (Terry Lawson, #3)

My rating: 1 of 5 stars

Irvine Welsh is absolutely not my cup of tea. It seems to me that he succeeds in putting together all the worse thing in life and then laugh about it, it can be useful but it is not something I enjoy reading. Plus his language (Scottish) is really difficult for somebody like me that is not English mother tongue.

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

This is a well written and interesting book, that shows how hard is to be thorn between two different culture, or country. Pity is that my big ignorance about the Vietnam war, what preceded it and also what has followed didn't allow me to get all the things involved.

A Dance with Dragons (A Song of Ice and Fire, #5)A Dance with Dragons by George R.R. Martin
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Eventually I read it, but it really took me a lot of time, in the beginning because nothing new was happening, and later only because I was soooo tired of all the stories going on, and my hardback cover book is really really heavy too. Soo I must only sit and wait (without fear of spoilers anymore) for the next chapter and in the meantime one can always see the tv show.
