OUT TOMORROW!

The Clothing of Books

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

It still bothers me a little that I have to read in English something that the author originally wrote in Italian, but ok; this is a short essay about the importance of the cover for the books. and it's really interesting because she points out things about the cover that I never realized or even thought about, and it's funny considering how many books I have at home, but I think that with so many ebooks it can also be understood.

The British Table: A New Look at the Traditional Cooking of England, Scotland, and Wales

My rating: 4 of 5 stars

I didn't know a lot about English cooking and that's the reason why I liked this book a lot. Some recipes I would never try but some other, especially the one with the Indian origins are really interesting. Plus the explanations are clear and the pics are really good.

Pirate Utopia

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

Were I not Italian, I would have appreciated this book a lot more; it's an uchronic tale about what could have happened in Fiume if there was a zombie engineer and Houdini and Lovercraft (as D'Annunzio was really there) and it's funny, but in a way I couldn't really connect because I studied the story (that is in the end of the book) and couldn't immerse in it.

Absolutely on Music: Conversations with Seiji Ozawa

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I love classical music and Jazz, even if I'm far from being an expert, so this book was interesting most of all, but I read it very slow so I could listen to the pieces they were mentioning. As usual Murakami is a great narrator and I would probably be happy if I could read everything he wrote.
I wouldn't recommend this book to everybody, but if you have just the slightest interest in music, I would definitely do that.

Odessa Stories (Pushkin Collection)Odessa Stories by Isaac Babel
My rating: 3 of 5 stars

The first part of this book made me think about the other book I read by Babel (Red Cavalry) and I have to admit it was not my favorite. Instead later I liked the other part of the book, because it made me think about Isaac Bashevis Singer, who is one of my favorite author. Some of this stories are really sad and crude, but you have to know the author to appreciate his style, even if I'm sure I wouldn't recommend him to many person.

Swing Time

My rating: 3 of 5 stars

As a long time reader from Zadie Smith I was a little bit disappointed by this too long book about friendship, and life and racism and everything else almost. As a matter of fact it made me think to the first novel of the Ferrante's quadrilogy: this girls, their friendship and the power imbalance that there is. I don't know what made this novel hard for me to read, maybe the constant flashback and forward in time, the change of the narrator whose name we never know or the too many topics of the book; sometimes I don't understand whether Zadie Smith wanted to write a feminist/about racism essay or a novel. But remember she is one of the best author of our time, so her novel are always worth of your time.

Filthy Rich (Blackstone Dynasty, #1)Filthy Rich by Raine Miller
My rating: 2 of 5 stars

Nothing special: your usual billionaire who falls in love for the very first time with the poor/abused super beautiful woman. Caleb and Brooke could have other names but the story is well known and maybe I'm just too old too keep on reading this sort of books even if usually I like Raine Miller, but maybe I prefer her historical romances.
